I’ve always felt ELA is my weak subject out of the 4 main ones. I’m currently in Honors English 9th grade and i’m planning to just take Honors English for the rest of High School. Is there really anything I should worry about for not taking any AP ELA courses, should I put the effort in for AP ELA?
I plan to take AP courses in the other 3 subjects; they all seem somewhat interesting. I’m not sure though if I can handle AP ELA
I’ve heard that it doesn’t really matter if you take AP courses on subjects that are of lesser concern. Is this true?
Not having AP Lang or AP Lit on your transcript definitely isn’t going to get you rejected from college, but I’m not sure it’s fair to say that English is of “lesser concern.” Especially considering how much reading and writing you’ll have to do in college, those skills are of primary importance. Still, there’s no need to force yourself to take a class you’re not comfortable with!
The ability to write effectively is a skill which will come in handy whether you are a philosophy major or a chem eng major. I would hardly call it a “lesser concern.” Since you’re a freshman, you still have some time to think about it, but among the other great things that one gets out of AP English Lang is the ability to write effective essays for your college applications. You really should start thinking big picture.
