Just in case any thought that THAT Robert Lee might still be alive 152 years later and decided to become an ESPN announcer.
I can’t stop laughing about this. The response on Twitchy is so funny it made my day.
Just saying. Up here they wonder why he couldn’t just be “Bob Lee.”
This, from some site:
"Also, don’t forget the hub-bub in Los Angeles over USC’s mascot horse “Traveler” having a name that’s spelled almost the same as Robert E. Lee’s horse “Traveller.”
USC should invite Robert Lee to ride Traveler at the UCLA game in November."
I think it is silly.
I wonder if any advertisers expressed concern that the name would bring the current controversy to people’s mind and they wanted to avoid that?
It is ridiculous.
This is the most ridiculous thing ever, how stupid do they think people are? This is my favorite comment, “From 1862 until his surrender in 1865, ESPN college football announcer Robert Lee commanded the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia.”
I don’t understand the desire to be like the Taliban and ISIS, and start ripping historical statues down and rewrite history. Yes, the civil war happened.
Wonder if my great uncle would be a pariah now. His name was Robert E. Lee, and he was a playwright. Perhaps his books, plays, and movies will be banned? Ripped from the shelves?
Really, did he write “Inherit the Wind”?
The USC thing is ridiculous too. They are concerned that a white horse may be a racist symbol because it is named “Traveler”. Don’t these Trojans know that the ancient Greeks kept slaves. Maybe the whole Trojan mascot name should go.
Well they certainly should be. Because triggering.
And I support the vandalism and call for removal of the New Orleans statue of Joan of Arc
Because
Yes, and Auntie Mame, along with others, if you’ve heard of that, with his partner Jerome Lawrence.
That is, after he took a break from the Civil War…
Wow, busdriver, who knew you were such fancy folk?
Ha, ha, zoosermom, they were our Hollywood family. My great aunt (his wife), was the voice of Judy Jetson, Penelope Pittstop, and Josie (in Josie and the Pussycats). My kids were much more impressed with her. They were really nice people.
Penelope Pittstop was my absolute favorite ever. I am very impressed.
I love “Mame”. Maybe we should start a thread “Famous People in My Family”.
I’m glad you liked her. Funny, she was really quite old when she was doing the voices for those, and even in her eighties, she still sounded like a teenager.
But she was married to the evil Robert E. Lee, so hopefully people won’t be picketing their funeral home.
Would be even more ironic if this Robert Lee was Asian American.
Hmm, didn’t we have one of those? Or maybe it was famous people that we knew or met. I remember a lot of people on this forum having family, or knowing rather famous people.
I still have MIL’s framed pic of “General Lee.” Or, “Mr. Lee.” MIL was one of the most genuinely fair and egalitarian sorts. I understand the triggers.
We don’t hang it.
This Robert Lee is Asian American.
He is Asian American.
@greenwitch, you didn’t look at the picture did you??
