Not too great first two years?

I’m just going to start all the way back from middle school until now. This’ll probably be pretty long.

I went to a private middle school. Straight A’s with the occasional B. I wasn’t the top of my class but only because my class was 13 people and pretty much everyone had the same grades. I was like 6th in the class but only like .1 below the valedictorian in terms of GPA.

Freshman year I messed up a bit. I’d only been to one school all my life and moving from knowing everyone’s second cousin’s dog to a school of 800 was big. Plus, the school is an hour drive away compared to a five minute drive in middle school. Also, the grading scale changed–at my school now, instead of 90=A, 80=B, etc., it’s 93=A and 85=B. I’ll just post my final letter grades for my classes.
Religion-A
Honors English-B
Honors History-A
Algebra I-A
Honors Bio-C
Spanish II-A
Gym-A
Most of my A’s were on the low end.

1st semester of this year I did really well–all A’s. I don’t know what my GPA was last year, It couldn’t have been great, but 1st semester it bumped up to 3.6 unweighted, 3.8 weighted (it’s a cumulative GPA). On my PSATs, I scored extremely well on the reading/writing (98th and 99th percentile for sophomores) and okay on math (78th percentile). Math will be better now after I’ve taken geometry. I’m going to see an SAT tutor weekly for the summer. I did pretty well on midterms, but I worked super-hard 1st semester and it really burned me out. 3rd quarter wasn’t too great, I got a C in English and a few B’s, which brought my GPA down to 3.1 unweighted, 3.28 weighted. 4th quarter I did a lot better. I haven’t gotten my report card yet, but I’m hoping it’ll be a bit better. However, I’m pretty sure I screwed up finals. The only ones I think I got an A on are Geometry, Religion, and possibly Spanish III. History wasn’t great, and English and Chem were a disaster. Of course, it was just my luck I got sick during them, so that didn’t help.

As of now, not including finals, my averages for the year are:

Religon-97
Honors English II-87
Honors US I-93
Geometry-96
Chem-93
Spanish III-94
Gym-96
I’m pretty sure finals will bump history, chem, and maybe spanish to B’s. Also, I think I’ll end up with a C in english. Not too sure of my chances in NHS.

Next year, I’m taking:
Religion
Health (1 semester)
Honors English III
AP US II
Honors Algebra II
AP Environmental
Honors Spanish IV
Choir

Senior Year, I’m taking:
World Lit w/ Film
History of Art or Music (it’s required)
Religion
Health (1 semester)
Choir
AP Psych

and two of the following:
Honors or CP Precalc
Honors or CP Physics
AP Language and Composition
AP Spanish V
Law/Criminal Justice

As for extracurriculars: I’ve been dancing for 10 years this year; I dance 8 1/2 hours a week plus rehearsals for ballet which are between 1 and 9 hours per weekend in October-November and February-March. Next year I’ll have 2 hours more a week, plus competition and 1-2 hours competition rehearsal a week. I’m in the Photography, Student Library Association, and Ukelele clubs; I may join one or two more. I’m joining choir and hopefully cross country/track. I’d like to do the school play but I know that won’t work out, at least not next year. This summer I’m doing service; I just haven’t figured out what. Either at the SPCA or doing something on my own, i.e. making blankets or getting baskets.

When it comes to college, from what I’ve heard I’m pretty much in the worst position. I’m a white, middle-class girl. I have slightly above average grades. I have extracurriculars, but no outstanding acheivements other than dedication in dance. My parents’ college savings are zip, so I’m relying on scholarships, financial aid, and (unfortunately) loans.

I don’t know much about the financial process, and I haven’t narrowed down colleges a whole lot. In terms of majors, I have a pretty broad field of interest. Currently I’d like to go into film (writing, directing, producing, the whole thing), but I’m also interested in theatre, interior design/decoration, creative writing, public relations, etc. My list of colleges includes ones all across the country. I’d say my top choices are probably NYU, Chapman, and USC (Southern CAlifornia). The only Ivy is Cornell, although my mom wants me to look at Brown because my grandmother went there. Others are: Tulane, Barry University, U of Tampa, U of Michigan…and about 50 others.

Obviously, I have to get my head together for next year and make all those organized plans of how I’m going to get everything done, have perfect grades, keep my room clean, and still have a life that will go down the drain after the first week of school. My question is; at this point in time considering everything I just said [which was A LOT…sorry…] what are my chances of getting in? How about scholarships? Any advice for next year? I don’t know much about colleges’ expectations or what other people do to get in so this is all just a guess on how I’m doing and what I need to do. Thanks guys :)

Woops, sorry. POsted that twice…I’m new here, not sure what happened.
