Notebook Computer

Need to buy S a new notebook. Recommendations? Type, size of screen, etc. Thx.

Which school is he in/what are his interests in regards to future areas of study?

Art/Sci…undecided…lots of interests, isn’t ready to start narrowing down yet.

MACBOOK pros!!! amazing for up and coming science, music, film, recording, engineering and anything else you ever want to do!

Eeeeew Mac

I have a convertible notebook and I love it. It has proven to be very helpful in math/science/linguistics classes since you can write on the screen.

Where is the best place to buy a PC or MacBook? Directly from mfr or from Campus Bookstore or ???

Mac from bookstore or apple store, PC direct from mfr. Don’t bother getting one through the bookstore, as you can get better PC deals direct from manufacturers, with more customization. Keep in mind that you could get a good new PC laptop for 2 years, and then buy another one for the next 2 years for about the price of a Macbook pro… With the way that technology is moving, I’d recommend that.

unless your son is in art, I would reccomend a dell inspiron (I have the E1505 and i love it), especially if he knows a decent amount about computers. they’re easier to customize and to access the system options. if he doesn’t know a whole lot of computers and he won’t be bothered by a computer that just kind of picks all his options for him or if he’s an art student, go for the mac. oh, and I’ve heard most engineering programs (matlab, etc) don’t work too well on macs.

good points - thanks, snazz

there is a matlab for mac which is readily available

If you want to follow OnCampus’ buying philosphy with a Mac - Buy a Macbook instead of a Macbook Pro. You are still getting a great laptop and you are getting it at a great price. Unless you are really into computers, a Macbook pro is going to be overkill. A regular Macbook will handle anything that a student would need (with the style and creativity of a Mac.)
