Noted Professor Joins USC's Faculty

<p>Dr. Scott Fraser will join the Dornsife faculty and will serve as the Director of Science Initiatives. He has been appointed Provost Professor of Biological Sciences and Biomedical Engineering.</p>

<p>The renowned biologist comes to SC from the California Institute of Technology where he was the Rosen Professor of Biology and professor of engineering and applied science. He founded the Biological Imaging Center on that campus. Dr. Fraser is a leader in imaging the molecular signals and tissue morphogenesis and other complex events using advanced technologies.</p>

<p>Dr. Fraser earned his B.S. degree from Harvey Mudd and his Ph.D. with distinction in biophysics from Johns Hopkins University. About 200 of Fraser’s peer reviewed articles have been published in scientific journals.</p>

<p>Dornsife’s dean remarked, “Dr. Fraser’s leading expertise in precision measurements of live cells and organisms epitomizes our push into emerging areas of quantitative biology.”</p>

<p>Dr. Scott Fraser has received various awards and honors. He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, member of the Society for Neuroscience and the Biophysical Society.</p>

<p>He has received the Silver Beaker Award, Caltech’s Graduate Mentoring Award, the Singer Medal and was a McNight Scholar among other honors.</p>
