Notes from underground- still without power

^^Maybe you guys should get a case of liquor and have the verizon guy to fix your electricity :)

Am wondering whats happen to my old house in Tenafly? It has a leaky basement and the power goes out even there is no hurrican… I am glad its out of my hand long time ago.

Woohoo! Power back on at my house in central Jersey! They had been telling us to expect early next week, so this was a pleasant surprise. :)

I hope the rest who are still without power get it back quickly too.

S2 in eastern NC just got power back last night. He had been without power since Saturday morning.

Monmouth County NJ, Sandy Hook area. JUST got my power back at 6:30 tonight.
We always had water, so we have really been fine, it’s just more the feeling that now that the power is back the storm is finally over and I can vacuumm and do the wash and get back to normal. My husband’s diabetic great aunt (85), and aunt and uncle were mandatorily evac’d from Belmar and spent the night with us.

Lots of enormous downed trees here and I have to say, the power trucks are now out in full force–so for everyone still without power I hope it gets to you soon! It’s amazing how recovered everything looks down here already–Highlands, Sea Bright, Long Branch and Asbury Park are really all in very good shape in the public areas.

We spend a lot of time up in the catskills, and I haven’t had a tv or computer to get the news but it sounds like our favorite area (Roxbury-Margaretville) has been hit hard.

99 hours without power and still counting. This is long past getting old. The JCP&L website shows 1 customer in our town restored in the past 12 hours. 1021 customers still to go.

I second the suggestion to call and call and call your mayor’s office.
We’re in northern NJ and our entire small city went out due to a flooded substation.
Yes, of course it flooded, it sits NEXT to the river.

I had to go to work since hospitals don’t shut down of course. Left DH and DS home to bail water from our flooded basement.

After 3 days, I decided to call our mayor’s office to ask status for JCPL power recovery.
I didn’t have time at work to hang on phone line directly to JCPL to finally hear a recorded robot tell me some made up info.

Mayor’s sec’y took my name and said she would investigate for us. That our town was in constant contact with the utility. Miraculously, 2 hrs later, our power was restored.
Coincidence, I know. All I was looking for was accurate info so we could plan for how many more days…but got power instead.

Sending good vibes out to all you still without.

Just joining this fun thread.

In southwestern CT – still no power since last Sunday at 4:00 AM. According to our town’s website, “only” 15% of the town still doesn’t have power.

I anticipate my cul-de-sac will be the last 0.005%.

JCP&L just updated their website. No it looks like no one in my town was restored in the last 12 hours, not even the one customer they reported earlier. This is discouraging. Have discovered that our house does not have good natural light.

“Our town has the highest percentage still without power according to the power company.”

Was it higher than 100%? Neighbor (with generator) came by Monday to say the town was listed as 96% powerless. Tuesday morning he came by (like, what else is there to do besides walk around talking to neighbors when there’s no power, no cable, no landline phones, and NO CELL SERVICE???) … ok, I feel better now … on Tuesday he came by to say that the figure had been updated to 100% without power. Central CT town along the river. Lots of BIG trees down … lots of wires on the ground. Power off 4 AM Sunday. Generator purchased 5 PM Tuesday. Landline phone service restored 8 AM Thursday. I suppose electricity will have to wait until power lines are no longer laying on the ground. But we’re OK … now that Internet’s back!

Wow, I just went to the JCPL website and am amazed at the number still out in Sussex County. I work in Andover and have had customers saying they are still out, plus one of my boss’s farms is still out, but I had no idea there were that many still without power. With the dependency on wells up here, it makes it very tough especially for those with livestock. No electricity - no well pump. Have to cart water from somewhere for the animals while trying to deal with their own needs.

There are areas that are so devastated by this hurricane and sadly they are not even covered for the damage. I am so tired of the power going out in my town because people refuse to remove trees that have an impact on the utility lines. I watched the sky glow when a huge tree knocked out our power around midnight in my town. This situation made me realize that residents need to have a voice at public meetings because losing power when there is a hurricane is one thing but losing power when a wind blows is another. We are tired of losing power and frustrated that trees are permitted to remain standing when they cause this kind of destruction to peoples property as a result of failed power.

JCP&L’s count of customers in my town without power just went up by 600, an increase of ~60%. We are not moving in the right direction, folks! At this rate I’m afraid I’ll be the last customer in my town to get power back

Still nothing in rural Morris county. I haven’t even seen a repair crew yet so my hopes are not high.

Tough times teach us a lot about people and businesses though.
The small exercise studio I attend has really struggled to stay afloat the last couple years yet they are bending over backwards to offer us a hot shower in their one small bathroom. On the other hand, the large local grocery store has been up and running through this whole mess yet doesn’t see the need to participate in the power company program to provide free ice and water. I have vowed to never shop there again.

Sent from my Droid using CC App

58% of customers in my mother’s Southern Fairfield County town are still without power. She spoke to someone at the power company a couple of days ago who said that her location would get power Saturday at the earliest.

Still out in Baltimore. We were told that since it is just our little neighborhood, they may not get to us until next week. At one point, there were over 300k out in my county - now about 30k out so making progress.

I got power back at 2 AM. And since that’s all that was a problem, we’re fine. No damage other than loss of what was in the fridge and 2 freezers.

Reading all of these horror stories in NJ makes me feel bad even for complaining! Sending good thoughts to all of you dealing with floods as well as outages.

Dadx, I don’t think we’e in the same time, but we must be close by.

Our town had only 100 of 1950 (left) restored yesterday. Today, my coworker got hers back, but she was in the badly affected area (over 1000 homes), so they were a priority. Should I go cut more lines in my neighborhood so we become a priority too? (Kidding folks)…

Since our outage is a two digit group, we will sit until the Messiah comes… I know many of you have been waiting a long time for that too.

This is totally against my OCD,type A squared personality.

I finally tossed the fridge and freezer since it was trash day.

I will wear dirty clothes or buy new ones; I refuse to go to the laundromat.

I will use paper plates since I have run through all the dishes. I refuse to hand wash.

Yes, I have showered.

Please put a reserved sign on my seat at Starbucks.

Oh, and today I got a call this morning that the power had gone out in our office. Fortunately it was just a few minutes. They have work crews (pseg not Jcpl) out in this area and traffic lights etc are going back on. My office is in a much more populated area than my home. We moved further out for peace and quiet, but I can’t live in the 19th century too much longer.

spoke to my Mom in CT this morning and she was close to tears after no power since Saturday. They are on a well so no power means no water. Thank God they got their power back later in the day. No they have to hire someone to help clean up the yard and the fridge and freezer.

Ebeeee, I am feeling you…it is hard on our seasoned citizens. I am not cut out to rough it. My dh wanted to buy a house with a well, but I balked at that…keep posting your successes folks…

Sister-in-law in CT got her power back last night; another S-I-L (Dutchess county) & B-I-L in NJ are still out, though.
