Notes from underground- still without power

MIL in New Haven has been out since Sunday; theoretically her neighborhood was supposed to get it back today but so far no word. She’s 95 and pretty set in her ways so won’t go to a hotel, relative’s home, library, etc. She’s a stock up shopper so donated a lot of thawed freezer food yesterday.

Even though I got a call to confirm that my power was on…it wasn’t. I was able to confirm that we are of very low priority…

Maybe tomorrow, maybe this weekend, maybe next week.

Keep those stories coming…

I am sorry for all of you still dealing with power outage. I hope you get good news soon.

One brother on Long Island finally got power back yesterday afternoon, this after basically having his daughter’s wedding almost ruined by Irene. Caterer had to throw out all the leftover food my brother was supposed to get, wedding cake, etc. Another brother, about 30 miles north of NYC, (NYSEG) had his restoration time pushed back to Saturday night. He also had no lights and no water. He reached the boiling point and this afternoon he happened to see a NYSEG supervisor driving down the street and he accosted him and yelled at him until the guy brought in a crew and took the 20 minutes to fix the street. Something about the squeaky wheel…:)

I heard of a couple of canceled weddings this past weekend. That is really upsetting for those families (and the bride and groom of course).

IF I saw a repair truck, I would rant and rave. They are hiding … The supervisors must be underground too.

Most of my town is back on the grid, but we will not be. Someone actually has to come to the pole and replace the transformer. I will know it when I see a truck there.

I would have to drive around looking for them.

Hardly anyone is at starbucks tonight. All home cleaning up I guess.

My niece who lives in Fairfield sent me a link to a CP&L statement that says that power in my mother’s area may not be back until NEXT WEDNESDAY!! This is ridiculous. I am wondering if they have cut maintenance staff to the bone as a cost-cutting measure and so cannot deal with this situation, as crews in neighboring states are also busy. Meanwhile, I know people in Litchfield County who never lost power, and people outside Hartford who got it back several days ago.

In the great ice storm of 1974 they performed MUCH better. Something stinks.

Finally got power back around 5:30 today. I’m a happy camper.

Our power came back last night around 9. This morning the number of homes without power in central Virginia has finally dropped below 100,000. It started at over 350,000 on Saturday.

According to the Star Ledger on-line, more than 97% of the 1.5 million NJ customers who lost power in the hurricane have had their power restored. But not us :(. JCP&L’s website shows 200 more customers in my city without power than they did yesterday morning. At this rate I feel like I’ll be the last house to get power, maybe sometime next week.

Hooray for a hot shower today!!! I can’t wait to see that guy deliver my hot water heater and it is getting installed on 8 inch blocks or 12 if that’s possible.

MIL in CT finally got power back at 9:15 this morning. Whew.

There are 13k left without power in my county - I am one of them.

Oh bummer cartera. Sympathies to you.

Thanks Jym. My court is the only area out in my neighborhood so I resigned to being one of the last to get it back. I have water so it could be a lot worse. The key is having good friends who give you their house key and allow you to camp out there.

In desperation I called my aSsemblymans office this am. My dh was mad at me… I areally can’t take it. There is no chance that our power will go on at night. Someone actually haas to go to the pole and repair the damage. When there is nno truck out there I know they are not working on it… I cant type on this iPad…lots of typos. Where’s the apostrophe anyway?
Please my friends, don’t desert me…

Great to know that I am in th 3 percent still in the dark

I still have seen no truks in my towm

We were power-free for 41 1/2 hours… not that I was counting ;)

My deepest sympathy to anyone still without power. This storm covered a huge area, lots of people, and lots of rural/forested areas with lots of trees. I know a few power company folks and they are getting by on 4 or 5 hours of sleep per night, then going back to work. I know it’s incredibly frustrating to not have power for a week, but I doubt it’s not for lack of effort.

Its amazing to realize just how totally reliant we are today on electricity, when 100 years ago it was still a luxury in many areas.

And thank heavens for cell phones, smart phones and laptops that work on car chargers or can be charged at Starbucks. If it weren’t for them we’d be completely isolated with no power or phone!

I have no doubt that the maintenance employees they have are working incredibly hard.

I’m just wondering how many maintenance employees they have nowadays

anothermom2, Really hope your power comes on soon.I know it is very stressful. Good luck and hang in there!

Another 24 hours. Still no power. Still no sign of JCP&L in my area. Their website shows over 900 customers in my town still without power.

Its back on. I still can’t find the apostrophe. I will keep checking back until all cc parents are similarly back in service.

Never would thought it would take so long…
