Nothing left to do but worry....

Major: Poli Sci
UC GPA: 3.42
(My total GPA was hurt by a semester of classes I took in 2003. I joined the military and was medically retired for injuries sustained in Iraq. Since returning to school my GPA: 3.93)
IGETC complete this semester.

Essays were proof read by professor at UCI and admin rep from UCLA, both gave the thumbs up to submit.

EC: Do not really have any. I got out of the military and have taken a minimum of 17 units a semester at my CCC to transfer ASAP. I also have a 4 month old child and am the first in my family to attend college.

Accepted: CSU Dominguez Hills

Waiting for UCI, UCLA, USC, Cal

I am not sure what else I could have done to improve my chances. I guess it boils down to how much they are going to weigh the old grades that brought down my GPA. I see decisions coming out from UCI and still have not heard anything, I am getting kind of worried.

High GPA? Check.
IGETC completed? Check.
Decent essays? Check.
Veteran? Check.
First generation college student? Check.
Parent? Check.

I sincerely hope you’re being sarcastic when you say “I am getting kind of worried.”

I really wish I was joking, I wish could smack some sense into myself. I have rarely ran into situations where my best was not good enough and I am afraid that academia may be the fist time this is a reality. As silly as others may think it is, I am genuinely nervous about where my next step in the education process will take me.

What specifically are you worried about?

I’d be shocked if all four of those schools rejected you unless there was something seriously wrong with the application (e.g., a number of missing prerequisite courses, though you could just reapply next year after finishing them). Rest assured that at least one of those excellent schools will let you in, especially in view of your background.

I guess it’s still a crapshoot in the end, though.

I am not really sure what the specific concern is, I suppose its just the large number of applicants that have me questioning my competitiveness. I took the exact classes UCLA asked for Pre-Reqs even registered for the summer session this year to take the one class that is only offered at UCLA (at least thats how it appears based on assist.org). All the other schools I have either completed the pre reqs or courses that compare, or I am really close to having them all done. Waiting until next year is not option for me because of the way the GI Bill works. After completing 30 units you have to show progress towards a degree, and since I have completed my 2 year AA/Transfer degree I would have to continue to take courses that work towards completing my BA in Poli Sci (since thats my declared major with Department of Veteran Affairs). I know I just need to relax, I appreciate your positive feedback and optimism though!
