"Notice of Likely Admission"

<p>Did anyone else receive a letter and phone call about “likely admission” to Yale Class of 2011 as long as you kept up your academic performance?</p>

<p>I recieved my phone call on Jan 27th (right after I took my last round of SAT II’s) and my letter on the 30th.</p>

<p>That’s really awesome. If I had one of those I’d go nuts. What was the focus of your application? Is there a cure to AIDS that no one knows about?</p>

<p>i think the hook of my application was that i am low-income, the first person in my family to go to college, raised by a single parent, and immigrated to the US when i was 6. i had decent SAT scores and extra-curriculars with a focus on leadership and the humanities, but i think the aforementioned things were what really helped me.</p>

<p>well…if you’re a high-achieving student from a low-income family with only one parent it shows that you’ve had to face obstacles and limited resources in order to compete on the same level of other kids who have had more opportunities than you. at least that’s what i’ve interpreted that factor as.</p>

<p>whether it really does serve as a hook or not, I think nobody can really say for sure BUT it definitely SHOULD serve as a hook… it’s all about making the most out of your situation and the things heesun has describe definitely qualify as a “challenging” childhood, and I mean this in a good way</p>
