yeah can i read the acceptance letter plz

congrats rmstmppr and good luck to HB and everyone else waiting!

oh, im sorry. since you’ve posted three times now it must be true. how can you not be aware of why everyone is accusing you of being a ■■■■■? people are NEVER accepted before may 1st except in very very very rare circumstances, such as a special athlete as someone here posted before (athlete got accepted to harvard)…not what imbri3 posted; hence all the backlash. i’m being a bit harsh since you seem like a ■■■■■ attempting to stir everyone up. my apologies if you’re not, but i highly highly doubt that lol.

yes, proof would be in order. a simple print screen of your acceptance + upload to an image uploading site is all you need. but then again, you can just find another picture that someone’s posted up of their acceptance…so actually, type Roboticsfre4k can suck it in the address bar THEN print screen it. kthx.

Yup, I know someone who got off today

I have no idea how they are working the wait list, but it makes a lot of sense to me that they would be accepting a few students before the 1st. One of the biggest problems with waitlists is that students have sufficient time to bond with their former second choice. You pull on the tee shirt, start to picture yourself in your favorite dorm, and tentatively pick some classes. So that by the time that the once-preferred choice comes true, you’ve already bonded with somewhere else. If I ran an admissions office, and I knew we’d be going to the wait list, I’d start to move immediately, definitely before May 1.

Perhaps Chicago’s initial responses from accepted students are showing a lower yield than they anticipated? I think that it’s entirely feasible for the admissions office to start taking kids off the waitlist before May 1st; go on the Rice forum, 3 students on there already got off the waitlist today. The same could be happening at Chicago.

We know someone who got off the waiting list at Hopkins before April 15th. This was three years ago, but yes, this does happen sometimes.

Nice to know Chicago is beginning to get people off the waitlist.

Where did everyone put their enrollment deposit to? I haven’t decided yet, but probably either emory, tufts or UVa.

Wait. so Chicago started to take ppl off the waitlist now? even before may 1st? …

Can someone call the uchicago office and ask - my phone cant make international calls right now

OK, so I received my admissions materials by snail-mail last week after being admitted form the waitlist last monday.
I got one letter that reads: “We know you’ve waited long enough for this moment to arrive. We’re so excited to be able to welcome you in to your new UChicago community, and we hope you’re just as excited about joining us next fall. As a little bonus, we’ve enclosed a few little gifts that we hope will give you a glimpse of your UChicago life that is to come.”
I think this is the wait-listed-> admit letter…
There are 4 more paragraphs and a P.S. note about a “snazzy sticker” that they sent.
I also got a sticker, the I-guide, a big book of course selections, and the maroon scarf (!). I think the scarf is special for wait-listed students? Not sure.

In another letter came the standard letter of admission (“Congratulations! It is my great pleasure to inform you that…”) along with a certificate of admission (which is funny cause I was waitlisted…^^ )both of those pieces of paper came in a big maroon pamphlet thingy-I think that this is standard admission stuff.

Then I got my finaid stuff in another letter, and that sucked.

So I hope this helps (or excites) other wait-listers (?) out there, and for those of you who think I’m ■■■■■■■■, well, w/e, I’ve stopped caring.

I’m getting the impression that UChicago is rreeaaly worried about their yield this year.
Have hope! Stay Strong!

well all 3 accepts arent going too UChig from my school, hope that helps me

Hey rmstmppr,

Did you do anything gimmiky since being waitlisted? Or did you do the normal - write a letter and possibly have a followup rec letter? Also, if I may ask, what is your major? I’m majoring in Chemistry, so if my major is the same as yours I might have a chance… Good to know that you applied for fin aid because I was under the idea that if you applied for aid as a wait list applicant, you’d be screwed.

Thanks! (and sorry for bombarding you with questions)

And yeah I know of a few UChicago accepts who will be going elsewhere, hope that helps.

Damn dude this is intense

Oh and also rmstmppr, were you ever notified about being placed on a priority wait list before the admission call came?

Any chance Chicago will send scarves to admitted transfer students? I find out this week if I got in, and if I do get in, a scarf would definitely help Chicago’s case when I decide where to enroll :D.

I wasn’t notified about any priority waiting list, and nothing gimmiky: I sent two nice emails, no rec letters. I did however, become a national merit scholar and presidential scholar semifinalist, if that made any difference.

Congratulations, rmstmppr!
