Notifing Waitlist students earlier than May 1st

Is it possible that UChicago contacts waitlisted applicants to notify that they are off the waitlist before may 1st?

Well anything is possible… but the answer is no. University of Chicago will not know until that date how many students have made a deposit to enroll at their school. Once they know how many students have enrolled, they know how many people they need to take off the waitlist.

On very rare occasions in the past, a handful of schools have accepted a small number of waitlisted students prior to May 1st for some reason, however, with admissions being so unpredictable this year, dont expect that to happen anywhere, especially at Uchicago.

Sorry, that means you do have to put down a deposit at another school. i know- it sucks, but that’s what you have to do to ensure you actually have a college to go to in the fall.

Schools have been known to return deposits (Chicago has done it before). I would be really nice and see what happens.

Don’t forget to write a letter of interest!

@Orvent: Yes…last month my friend as waitlisted at UT-Austin and the NEXT DAY he got accepted.

I will sadly send a deposit to my secondary choice (Although I don’t exactly have a ‘seconday choice’ since I only expected to attend UChicago) but pray to be off the waitlist!

I was admitted off of waitlist a couple of days ago…

Hi! I too was on the UChicago waitlist. You said that you had been taken off the waitlist a few days ago? Did they contact you by e-mail or by phone?

Thanks

You got off the waitlist already???

ugh stop freaking people out. ■■■■■.

oh crap that got me worried

I’m not a ■■■■■. I got off the wait-list last weekend.

Agh I’m jealous. My counselor hasn’t even responded to my first email (I asked her a couple of questions). I might resend it through regular email instead of through my U Chicago account.

Well so it was true. Good luck everyone.

Doubt that guy is telling the truth.

how do you even know it’s the truth?

dude is lying and is trying to get y’all riled up.

proof then. lol.

yeah can u post the email they sent you or mail or whatever to prove it?

Did they make you an FA offer? How long do you have to decide?

Dude Chicago office said they haven’t taken off any waitlists yet. ■■■■■.

My friend got off the waitlist yesterday. He’s a recruited athlete so it would make sense especially with the new admissions approach this year. I don’t know about that other guy, but I assure you I am not a ■■■■■.

look, I don’t know why everyone is accusing me of being a ■■■■■, especially since I have now posted 3 times, repeating what I originally said. I was originally wait-listed and got off last weekend. My regional counselor called me via phone, and my chicago account now says "Welcome Admitted Students, where beforehand it showed my wait-list letter.
What do you want, a picture of my acceptance letter? video documentation? I really like Chicago and posted on this forum hoping to help other Chicago hopefuls, so no need to be hateful. sheesh.

What do you guys think about how Chicago’s yield will turn out? I’m wondering, with he increase in applications and all, if yield will turn out to be either way too high or way too low.

Also, and I think this is because of me being previously waitlisted, the response deadline on my admitted page is June 1st. Is everyone else’s response date the usual May 1st?

rmstmppr, congratulations!
