For what it’s worth, I think you made the right decision.

What major she is in at ND ? Also, do you mind sharing her W/UW GPA and class rank ?

Does anyone know what is meant by the notation “received school report?” In the application portal? This is listed on my DDs application portal but we don’t know what it means.

It’s sent from the guidance counselor at your child’s school. Basically it explains their curriculum and all that is available to your child and some other info. It gives colleges a chance to determine the rigor of the classes your child selected compared to what the school offered

IB Diploma (highest rigor) from high-performing public high school, 3.98 UW, 5.2 W, 1520 SAT with a strong art portfolio and art awards. She applied and was accepted into Arts & Letters as a design/sociology major, and after a strong semester is in the process of transferring to Mendoza.

It is also more commonly known as the School Profile and your school counselors can send you a copy of what they send to every college.

I know, I wish they would use that term, since it is more self explanatory. Not sure why the Common App and the school portals call it School Report

Belos the 50% range means in the sub-25%, but so. Also - CDS doesn’t show composite - they show individuals (reading and math separate) so doesn’t confirm composite (at least not the one I’m looking at). Maybe you could infer the 25th in Reading + the 25th in Math is the 25th, but no it isn’t. I’m really wondering what you all mean by “hook”. like "I don’t have any other hooks outside of awesome GPA, rigor, great SAT and EC’s. Just what exactly are you considering a hook?

Legacy and being in a Christian High School will both carry a lot of weight

ok thank you. My son is Catholic but didn’t go to a Catholic school. No Legacy. So I guess we don’t have the hooks!

ND is “very up front and honest” that legacy matters.
Last year 21% admitted were legacy.
Legacy “for statistics” is classified as “if the relation is listed on the pull down menu on the application”. Not just children of alumni.
For us it was “Grand Uncle”. Yes Grand Uncle was listed.
Also, you have to list the complete name, graduation date (or current student) and degree conferred for the legacy claimed person.
See this article

There are common “hooks” in the college admission landscape all with varying levels of impact on admission depending on the institution: athletic recruit, first gen, URM, legacy, and sometimes geography.

Contrary to popular belief going to a Catholic school is not a hook at Notre Dame. ND only admits about 40% from private high schools (and Catholic schools are only one type of private school).

Being Catholic is not a hook, but legacy is and the PP gave last year’s percentage of legacy admits. Notably, the CDS lists race and first gen as important where as legacy and religion are just considered.

That’s funny, my kid actually has 3 grand uncles who went to ND :joy:

On the common app you are able to add Family “legacy” members on the pull down menu, but I’m not sure what the limit is.

Thanks! My son won’t apply until next year so I’m sorry for lurking on your thread. His grandfather was expelled from notre dame in the 60s but before that all of the men on that side of our family went to ND.

We’re hoping they won’t hold the expulsion again S25!

Love the Lurkers :+1:
SUBMIT SCORES, Start Planning for that NOW. Our ND Recruiter was very clear about that.
TO is NOT “really optional” “wink wink”.
Also, local ND Recruiters are also the Admissions Decision Maker for your geographical area.
ND also “LOOKS AT INTEREST”. Get on campus, sign up for every online virtual tour, and apply for the high school residential summer program. Yes its a money grab but it helps on the overall application.
Get THREE Just 3 GREAT Recommendation Letters

  1. The required rec letter from a Math/Science Teacher on the application.
  2. School “Leadership” Dean, Principal etc. Rec Letter
  3. Alumni Rec Letter speaking to leadership and character and how the student will do well and “fit in” at ND, not necessarily academics,.

Thanks for the advice! We’re touring in February, and he’ll test in March so we’ll see!

Thanks for clarifying and good to know that being in a Catholic HS is nto a hook

Catholic Schools that “Consistently” send kids to ND year after year and they go on to achieve is a “hook” and ND knows who those schools are, and keeps track. Typically the Principal and other school Leadership are ND Alumni. Definitely NOT the same with all Catholic Schools.
