Notre Dame, Penn state, V tech

Right now im in the 11th grade.
here are my credentials.

3.8 GPA
1950 SAT (no studying, I could probably raise it up 50-100 pts)

Sports:
4 Years Cross Country 2 Varsity
4 Years Winter Track 2 Varsity
4 Years Spring Track 2 Varsity

Clubs/ After School Activities:
4 Years Student Officer
3 Years Astronomy Club
3 President Of Church Youth group
3 Years of Administrator for Junior Youth Group
2 years Student/ Administration Council
4 years BoyScout
2 years NHS
150+ hours Community service annually
play the Bagpipes for 2 Years in a Police Band

Also Live in NJ,
Top 20 Public Schools,
“Hispanic”
and could probably get good recommendations from some really smart teachers.

Most to Least wanted
Notre Dame
Boston College
Rensselaer
Syracuse
Penn State
Rutgers
Pratt
U Del
V Tech
Kansas State

Columbia U- Dad is alumni

Also I am thinking of doing ROTC, is it very competitive for these schools? Columbia is debating reinstating it right? (though i probably wouldn’t get in anyway)

sah suh sahn

If you can get your SATs to a 2100+, I’d say you have a good shot at all those schools. Notre Dame and BC will be the hardest, but with a 2100 it wouldnt be nearly as hard.

If you’re hispanic I would say Notre dame might be a match. I would really think you would get in if you had 2000+ SAT. You will have a tough time getting into Columbia, probably not getting in even with legacy.

Don’t go to RPI, my brother lives near there and it is a terrible area where you won’t grow intellectually. Blah

I think you should broaden your options. If you can get the SAT score above 2000, I think you would have a shot at most places (esp if you are Mexican or Puerto Rican as they are targeted underrepresented “hispanics” at some schools)

Notre Dame-you have a shot slight reach
Boston College-Match/Slight Reach
Rensselaer-you can do better
Syracuse-Match
Penn State-Match but you can do better
Rutgers-Match prefer here for latinos then PSU more on campus support
Pratt-you can do better
U Del-safety but waste of your time
V Tech-Match
Kansas State-waste of your time

If you are really big on ROTC, you might want to consider Texas A&M especially if you are a National Hispanic Merit Scholar. They have given full tuition waivers to NHMS students in the past. Two students I worked with in the past were offered this.

That said, I honestly think that academically you can do better than most ROTC universities so do not be surprised if you run into that dilemma. (ROTC campus vs excellent offer at non ROTC campus)

I still think you should consider other options are you bound to a particular region of the country? What else are you looking for?

Well, my best friend applied to Notre Dame.
Her stats were:
4.2 weighted GPA
1950 SAT
English Honors Society, National Honors Society, Spanish Honors Society
She was a member of at least 4 clubs (Don’t remember which ones…)
Had 100+ hours of community service
2 years of varsity swimming
4 letters of recommendation (2 from teachers, and 2 from ND alumni)
Minority student
Plus, her school was a catholic private school in Florida.

and she didn’t get in :frowning:
We attributed it to her SAT scores…

what major do you want? if its architecture Pratt is NOT a waste of your time. kansas state, penn state, rutgers, v tech, u del will def take you. RPI too but it overpriced.

Hey thanks for the replies!
To answer some of your questions.
I would preferably like to major in architecture or maybe civil engineering.
and I’m of Puerto Rican descent, however I don’t really care about diversity in schools or anything. Mostly b/c my mom is Irish and I look more white then PuretoRican, so socially it doesn’t matter much to me either way.

What other schools should I be looking at?

Umm…well I think Penn State is a great choice for you!!!

but, if you woul like some suggestions, maybe look CMU-but you would need higher stats.
or, you could try a place like BU or NYU

Yea I was looking at P State, Carnegie Mellon I think is a reach so i didnt even think of going, I would love to go, I think they even have their own Bagpipe band.

Hmm interesting very interesting

what school? or at least county?

Bergen county

I think you have a great shot at every one of those schools. Except maybe Columbia. I think everything on that list though is a math except for Notre Dame which would be a slight reach. If you do ED, it would improve your chances there.
Chance me back? Thanks

A self Humiliating Bump

Would UVA be good for engineering over V tech?
