Notre Dame Club Scholarships
Over 140 Notre Dame clubs offer scholarships from their respective geographic areas. All applicants for financial aid are considered for club scholarships. Students will be advised by participating clubs if any additional steps (e.g., interview, essay) might be required by the local club. Similar to Notre Dame scholarships, club scholarships are given on the basis of demonstrated financial need.

Great advice and good information many families might not know about, GraceDad! But I also wanted to add that the wording might be confusing because some local ND Clubs require a separate independent application to be considered for their scholarship and you will not be “automatically” considered. So I would recommend being proactive and contacting your local ND Club to inquire on their specific situation/process. For example, the Notre Dame Club of Greater Cincinnati has one of the most robust scholarship funds in the country (their own scholarship endowment alone is worth approximately $2.7 million), and they give out over $150,000 each year to all 4 classes total (6-10 students/year so 30-40 students total in any given year). The individual awards range from $1,000-$6,000 per student and will reduce the student’s loans/work study. What this means is that ALL of these local ND Club scholarships can only reduce the STUDENT’s need-based portion of the financial aid award (and not the PARENTAL contribution): this basically means the student’s loan awards and student’s federal work study portions of the package can be reduced…kinda confusing. So it definitely allows your student to take on less debt to attend ND but might not help the parents with their expected family contribution portion (but still a GREAT program!).

Yes, that is accurate, collegegirl6789. See my other recent post that gives a little more details (and describes the ND Club of Greater Cincinnati’s program of which I am familiar with). Basically the student portion of the financial aid package has to be NEED based loans (e.g. subsidized loan) or FEDERAL work study (need based work study vs. general “Campus Employment” which every student qualifies for). If the student’s need based portion is $0, then they wouldn’t be eligible for any local ND Club scholarship.

We just got our Financial Aid notification at 7:00 pm. Some favorable numbers/good aid package! It is just a summary so we still have some questions that may be clarified on the paper notification that should come in the mail.

We got ours too. @ND91DillonHall, I’ve got an older kid at ND and unless they’ve noted something to the contrary on your award, that’s all of the info you get. The paper notification will look the same.

@suzy100 We also have an older kid at ND (sophomore) and one who is accepted to be freshman next year. But their financial aid notifications were different by about $800 (no big deal but just odd since both kids’ + parents’ financial need is the same) and the sources and amounts of ND scholarships and loans were different between them too. I will call Fin Aid office to inquire for details, but before I did so I thought I’d ask you fir your experience is similar?

@CornyDad, my kids’ awards differed by a few thousand dollars. However, I attribute that to the fact that my older D will be a senior next year living off-campus and I believe the cost of living off-campus is generally lower than the cost of living on-campus. That’s my guess anyway. (The sources for the aid were different as well.) I do think it’s odd to have the FA for your kids - both in identical situations - be off by $800. It can’t hurt to ask about it. Go Irish!

Has anyone who was deferred EA received an email about portal information? On the RD thread they said they just got the email, meaning decisions will hopefully be soon!

I received the email…really hoping for some good news!
