@knk029 @NStan17 I was accepted on Friday as well and have not received my financial aid package yet.
@knk029 @NStan17 @sopita My son was accepted on Friday and has NOT received his financial aid package either. Just FYI.
This is in fact quite in line with normal FA processing for students admitted from the waiting list. In previous years there has been a time lag of one to two weeks after the phone calls (which normally occur shortly after the May 1st deadline):
“Waiting List
Students who are placed on the waiting list will receive a final admission decision by mid-June.”
Of course your students will be hearing back before then, given that waiting list admit phone calls started to go out on 04/24 this year. For this reason students admitted from the waiting list are provided with their individual confirmation deadline, based on the date they received the phone call, which always will be later than the May 1st confirmation date for RD admits. Students will of course receive FA information well in advance their applicable confirmation date. Best of luck and success!
@sopita @DadInTheCLE Also forgot to add that I had sent in all required documents in December, so everything was on file which could be why the notification was quicker.
@NStan17 The financial aid correspondence is sent to the student’s email address. The one that was used on the ND application.
My son received his financial aid package from Notre Dame via email late yesterday afternoon.
@DadInTheCLE when did you have FA forms completed by?
@randomguy23143 My son originally applied REA, so we had our FAFSA and CSS profile submitted prior to Nov. 1st.
Got the call this morning! So excited to go to ND next year!
am I the only one not getting a call?..
express your Interest to admissions director in your area, work with your school’s counselor to advocate for you, make sure you are using you time well and updating admissions on any relevant accomplishment or work you are doing.
@jeenn123 Hi! I know exactly how you’re feeling. I’ve been in your shoes. All I can say (and I hope this gives you comfort instead of added anxiety) is that the college admissions process is, in many ways, luck. If you haven’t gotten a call yet, give it time. I’m positive they will continue to accept people off of the waiting list well after May 1st.
My family and I have been scrambling to contact the financial aid office and appeal our package. Right now it looks like I’m not going to be able to afford Notre Dame. What a frustrating situation. I hope my spot can go to someone who deserves it.
@sopita Very sorry to hear this. Did you receive a better FA package from another private university? ND’s should at least be comparable or better than the group Notre Dame regards as peer schools, including Boston College etc. Folks at ND’s Office of Financial Aid are very nice and helpful - give them a call on Monday. Best of luck and success!
@hpsca I was offered a full tuition scholarship at Fordham University in NYC. It’s not exactly comparable to ND, but I can’t justify the $50,000 difference in cost of attendance per year. My family is middle class and doesn’t get much, if any, need-based financial aid. We’ve been relying heavily on merit aid. ND was my dream, but it just wouldn’t be a smart financial move to incur that much debt.
@sopita In round numbers: Notre Dame’s yield 60%, of the 40% of admitted students who ultimately choose another college, 20% will attend their in-state public and 20% another private college. A noticeable part of the latter group will decide based on merit aid offered by those private institutions, whereas just around 3% of admitted students will receive some form of merit aid at Notre Dame, where need-based FA is dominant due to good reason. The situation you currently find yourself in, while certainly frustrating, is not uncommon.
Seeking to appeal your ND FA package would therefore need to be based on need-based change of circumstances since submitted 2018 CSS Profile information, on which your FA package is currently based on. The Office of Financial Aid is highly unlikely to revise your FA package based on a merit aid offer received from another private university, i.e. Fordham in this case.
@sopita Fordham is an amazing school and the proximity to NYC will be excellent for internships and social outlets. Everyone I know that goes there loves it and their grads do very well. Best of luck to you.
@sopita For your major, Fordham is actually a really great fit for you. The connections for internships in NYC is amazing. Congratulations on your scholarship!
As first confirmation dates for students admitted from the waiting list were due May 2nd, we presumably should expect additional ND waitlist calls to go out beginning/mid of this week. Best of luck and success to everyone waiting!
My son got a phone call this morning! He is so excited!
