Now I Know Why Northwestern Has the Lowest Alumni Giving % in the Top 15

this is the first paragraph of a letter from my advisor during registration week:

“-----
You need to call my office at 847 491 ---- to schedule an appointment.
I am booked for the next two weeks. Your major we can discuss after
registration. As for you classes if you have a specific question(s) you
can e-mail these to me. Please reply to this e-mail to let me know if
there are issues you need resolved before registration.”

making students feel taken care of goes a long way.

Advisors are notoriously busy during registration week. This absolutely doesn’t mean they should ignore you, but you should understand too. If you say it’s an emergency, they should attend to you - if they don’t, that’s inexcusable. If it’s not an emergency, then realize you’re not the only student that your advisor advises. He/she already said you can email him/her with any specific questions.
