Now they are just running out of things to talk about

<a href=“The Most Influential College in Every State”>The Most Influential College in Every State;

I just saw this new list and thought how ridiculous. They are really stretching for things to rank.

I wonder if people will base their college decision on this new and very important information, I mean their criteria seems pretty solid.

One of the more interesting rankings is citations; it looks at the number of citations of research papers. That does reflect a degree of the influence in academics and the respect among peers. The list, which I don’t have at my fingertips, is interesting, both confirming some general notions and making one think twice about some schools.

I saw that same ranking (of research influence through number of citations). It was super interesting, with some expected results (Caltech at or near the top) and some real surprises. For example, UC Santa Cruz was number three. Rice was also near the tippy-top. The data was compiled by The Times of London, if I remember correctly.

Cougs are royally ticked off… Damn, it is those Dawgs again, and now they have the entire state under their control! :slight_smile:
Must have been a really slow news day…

“Twitter authority”??

The research influence through # of citations is a real thing. Individual professors know their # of citations if they are working toward tenure. My H looks up his every now and then, and he’s in the corporate world, not academia. Though, when looking at a whole university, there may be just a few highly-cited papers that raise the entire university’s rank.

What does “Twitter authority” even mean?

I can see that # of citations would be important. That makes sense.
