For the last seven months, Sponaugle originally from Maryland says hes been traveling across the United States without any money. None. And he likes it that way.

I havent possessed money since October, explained Sponaugle, whose shaggy dark mane and lanky frame bring to mind The Doors Jim Morrison. My life got a lot easier since I stopped using money. Money is a burden.

Sponaugle often eats what others leave behind from a tray at a fast food restaurant, or perhaps something plucked from a garbage can, he said.

As long as it looks clean, hell eat it, he said. Im not really worried about other peoples germs.

Hed prefer a balanced, vegan diet, but you cant always be choosy in my line of work, he said.

Sponaugle generally doesnt Dumpster dive, calling it almost mainstream.

He’s educated. He sounds like a college grad who can’t figure out what to do with his life.
Maybe it will be good for him, and he’ll figure out what he has that he can contribute instead of just mooching off of everyone else’s efforts.

He’ll write a book and be on the talk shows.
