NP grade

Hi
I’m an art history major and I think I failed my chemistry class.
Don’t ask me why I took chem, it’s a long story… which I will remember forever…

Well, my future plan was to either getting a job or going to an art history grad school, but there is also a slight possiblity that I might apply for a law school (I’m interested in art law) after I finish either one of the two I mentioned.

For that matter, do you think I should retake this chem class and repeat that class? I have 3.9 (and I’m a junior) and this chem class was p/np which will not affect my GPA but still it will be shown as NP. I hate chem and I was planning to graduate early and work during the summer. Retaking this class could ruin that plan and cost me a lot. I know… I should have worked harder. But I was so close! only if I had .6% more, I would be partying right now baby.

And I know this forum is only fot law school, but I know youguys could answer more than that being around this crazy discussion!!! **Do you think my art grad admission officer will care my NP in chem???

Anyways, good luck everybody if you still have finals and thank you for any responses!!

edit: spelling

Wow, such a drama queen (not even seriously considering law school, don’t yet have the final chem grade, retaking one class will ruin your plans)… it must be stress from finals. Why are you asking a law school discussion board what your art grad school ad comm will think? (though I happen to know that art history grad schools do care that their students have a knowledge of chemistry if they’re going into restoration)

If you mature out of this whiny college phase and do decide to pursue a career in law, then you’re in luck. NPs are shown on your LSDAS report, but they don’t affect your GPA. Therefore there is no need to retake the class as far as law schools are concerned.

actually they do effect you for law school… they are calculated as an F for LSDAS…so if the op does decide to go to law school than a NP is of concern

Retaking the class won’t matter. You are going to be stuck with that NP on your LSAC gpa forever. The only thing retaking will do is give you another grade. Both will still be calculated in.

Also remember that LSAC calculates their own GPA. Your college GPA may be a 3.9, but your LSAC GPA will be different, usually lower.

.6% from passing. is your prof so mean?

The above posters are correct. The NP will be viewed as punitive by the LSAC, who recalculates and standardizes the GPA of all law school applicants. They’ll call it an F - 0 out out of 4 - worth however many credits the class was worth. If your retake the class, unless the grade is totally expunged from your record, the LSAC will count both. Even if there’s a cross through it or a note on your transcript saying the re-take counts and not the first class, LSAC will count both if they can see both grades.

They’re kind of jerks!

Guys.

Late update. But I ended up passing that class. What an hassle. Ughhh I was so needy.

Oh shoot. I shoudn’t have replied. Now everyone knows my past. WT*
