I have been running the NPC for a few schools for my D. We won’t qualify for any financial aid, but was using it to determine potential scholarships. How much of a correlation is that to admittance? At least a match school - right? If you qualify for the scholarships through the NPC, how often do people get rejected from the school outright? And if the NPC shows a scholarship, is it often that a scholarship doesn’t get awarded? What is this correlation? Thanks.
The NPC is not a binding contract. Some schools have guaranteed merit based on stat cutoffs, not many though.
At other schools it is quite common for a high stat student to be denied if they feel you are using them as a safety.
Thank you. I know it’s not a binding contract, but if one qualifies for merit for a “match” school, do you think it’s more likely they would get in? Or is there absolutely no correlation between them at all? Definitely not safety schools that I am looking at for the merit (yes we are going about this backwards). @TomSrOfBoston
It depends on the schools. For example Northeastern and BU routinely deny or waitlist many students with top stats while other students with equal stats are accepted with merit. You may want to look back on the Decision threads here on CC for schools that you are interested in. Many students post their stats and the amount of merit aid they received.
For example here is Northeastern’s decision thread:
