NROTC MO

Hello everybody! I’m currently a junior in high school and my goal is to eventually qualify or gain admission to an ivy league school. Although my resume is important to explain in order to better understand me, the main reason for this post is to have a better understanding of Harvard/Ivy League NROTC MO and how to apply/receive scholarship. I’m looking to do my part in the toughest branch of the military, but at the same time want to attend an Ivy League school to receive the best education possible. My goal is to major in international relations (I’m Chinese-American) and work in the government as perhaps a liaison to China or in the State Department (unclear as of now).

Because the 2014-15 school year just started, I will announce my sophomore year resume as this year’s hasn’t actually been achieved yet (but I will announce my grades). My school is a 4-year private college prep school. AP’s (besides language) are not allowed to be taken in 10th grade, which is why I happen to be lacking in that field. Also, our school is based on a trimester scale, and I will list the grades for each trimester as (a, b, c).

Sophomore Year:
AP Chinese: 5 on exam; A+, A+, A
English 10: A, A, A
Alg2/Trig H: B+, A-, A- *hardest teacher in the world, but no excuse
Bio/Chem 2: Chemistry: A, A, A
Modern World History: A, A, A+
Spanish 3 Honors: A, A-, A
GPA: 3.95 unweighted, 4.27 weighted
Chinese SAT Subject test: 780 (probably not going to submit- too ashamed)

Activities:
11 years classical piano, numerous competitions
Academic Team
Founder of independent Jazz service group
Deans List 7-10 grade
Science Olympiad Leader
Varsity Lacrosse
COO of service learning magazine, independent from school (won CSPA gold award and EJS discretionary award)
2 year Chinese Museum docent
summer intern with UCSD 21st China Program
Volunteer/intern with APDL Silk Road/Harvard summer institute
(i will post edits if I can think of anything else.)

Junior Year: (avg. # of AP taken by student is 2. 3 is max for normal, 4 requires petition- weird policy if based on student interest if you ask me)
AP Bio
AP English Language
AP Art History
AP US History
Honors Precalc H
Honors Spanish 4

continuing activities, working on fitness. PFT: tbd. will post updates. Please let me know what you guys think!
This is just a resume to let others know the type of student I am so they can better judge my chances of getting into NROTC MO at an Ivy league, if I can eventually work to receive that honor. Please keep in mind I am not trying to sound like anything is happening (that i expect to gain admission to an ivy league or an nrotc mo program), but I’m just trying to explain my situation. Thanks for your time.

You know that NROTC is very competitive and they rank certain majors, right? 85% of NROTC are in either Tier 1 or Tier 2 majors. <a href=“Naval Education and Training Command - NETC”>Naval Education and Training Command - NETC;

Do you know if majors and minors, or if double majors can be used for this?

I’m sure minors mean nothing in this context. Dbl Majoring would work. Any branch’s ROTC will be heavy on the engineering & sciences. ROTC candidates should pursue this if firstly, they envision themselves leading men and women at a time of possible war. It’s should not be viewed as a source of college funding only.

If your reading and speaking ability is up to par, you should contact the US intelligence agencies (NSA, CIA). They have scholarships for select individuals. Good luck to you.

Quantitative economics should be helpful in politics/economics studies. I’m only a junior so I figure I have time to shift around my thoughts. I’m absolutely not viewing the NROTC programs or ROTC programs as a source of college funding. I’m looking to them to become a leader, serve the country, learn practical skills in the military and as a leader, and ultimately gain more international experience abroad so that I can use these skills in my career path in politics/economics and international relations.

Thanks for the tier 1,2,3 info. I appreciate your help

Marine Option students are exempt from the Tier requirements. You can major in whatever you want. Same with the Army. Only Navy and Air Force have restrictions on majors.

The NROTC unit for Harvard is actually at MIT, which I think is only a mile or two from Harvard.

WOW! Okay, thanks!!! I was like, gosh, i guess the only tier 2 major that makes sense would be quantitative economics… Thank you so much!
