NSF GRFP Application no longer requires subject GRE

Aaarggghh, the NSF GRFP no longer requires the subject GRE. In fact, they don’t want any of your GRE scores. I went out of my way to do well on the subject test thinking it would be evaluated for fellowships. I guess there really is no more reason to do a subject GRE exam.

It never required subject GREs, right? I never took one.

When did NSF ever require the subject GRE? Never.

I don’t know if the NSF ever required subject GRE scores but they certainly accepted them until last year. In fact, the NSF even paid the $140 registration fee for fellowship applicants who hadn’t taken already taken the subject GRE. Oh the good old days…

I suppose it hadn’t ever been required, simply recommended. It’s all moot now though.

So they say not to even send them now? Of course, it has been optional in the past, but I don’t think it was ever a good thing to not send them.

NSF GRFP no longer accepts GRE scores.

That’s a little surprising; I can think of one reason NSF would choose to do that, but it’s a little cynical.
