I STILL HAVEN’T GOTTEN A DATE UGH

My date is the 26th! Day after christmas.

@Schnuff3‌

Wow, the day after Christmas??? That is weird! :stuck_out_tongue: I think that I already told you guys but mine is on January 4…

HaHa, I’m excited,to wear my,new clothes to,the interriew though! I got a special dress just for the occassion.
=D>
Anyone wanna play trivia crack with me?

Ooh is it weird that I’M excited for y’alls interview? Haha.

To all of you Russian applicants - I’m now studying Russian history and politics in AP Comp Gov and, oh my gosh, it’s all so fascinating. What a fascinating country.

@Schnuff3 Can I just say that is awesome…I had a tough time choosing an outfit for my YFU interview but then I loved the outfit I chose, so I’ve already planned to wear the same outfit IF I get an interview for YES or CBYX…crosses fingers And also YES (no pun intended) to trivia crack (which I only knew by its Spanish name lol, “preguntados”). I’m procrastinating AP Euro right now :smiley: Haha

I GOT MY INTERVIEW DATE FINALLY!!! It’s on Jan 24 :open_mouth:
I wish you all the best of luck on your interview!! I will definitely tell you how mine went after! My email mentioned that there were 54 semis in Fl! the highest they had in fl so far :slight_smile: how many do you all have in your state?
Also, what are you going to wear? I’m beyond excited!

Ps I’d love to play trivia crack! What is it?
:sweat_smile:

@evan241‌ are you taking ap comparative g&p & ap euro in school? Do you use any prep books? If so, what do you recommend? I’m interested in self studying those courses!
(This question goes really to anyone who is currently taking these classes or has taken them before)

@lovinglife01 I’m self studying AP Comp, and I’m using the Ethel Wood (I believe that’s her name book). Love it. Love Comp. Best choice ever. I’m taking AP Euro online and…I’m actually trying to decide what prep book to get now, I have the same question. I have a $25 amazon gift card and I’m spending it on prep books, I feel quite responsible :smiley:

It’s a trivia game on facebook! I’m procrastinating right now, so shoot me your Facebook name if you want to play :smiley:

@lovinglife01‌ You can download Trivia Crack on smartphone devices. If you wanna play me, search for Em Vitale and look for the blonde girl with an awkward smile. I would love to play with you!! :ar!

Uggh, Evan!!! Come play me again.

Anyone have any ideas what the interviewers will ask?

No clue other than “why we want to go”… Just be honest and passionate about the program, that is really all we can do before the waiting period…

@Schnuff3‌

Do you?

@Schnuff3‌ @fromUSA2Russia‌

I know a lot of alumni and former semi-finalists have blogs about their experiences(so you might want to google around a bit), but there’s no telling what EXACTLY your interviewer will ask.

From what I understand, it’s mainly about how you would cope with being in such a different environment(and of course why you want to go, but that was basically covered in the initial application). They’re probably going to ask how you’ve handled and big changes/challenges in the past, and ask hypotheticals about what you would do if _________ happened in your host country(from what I’ve read, hypotheticals seem to be super common). The Facebook pages are really helpful if you want to talk to people who’ve been through this whole process before :)

I know that they tend to ask hypotheticals like “What would you do if you got in a fight with your host mom?” or “What would you do if a teacher in your host school made a serious mistake about US history?”

Hi everyone.
I know I haven’t been on here for a long time so I hope you all remember me!! (Haha!) I just wanted to say a few things.

I was rejected for Hindi summer and was totally crushed because this was my only summer I could go somewhere, (etc. etc.) Rejection SUCKS, but there is always a reason!!! (Cliché, I know)

In my case, I found out yesterday that I get to go to India this summer anyways.

Thanks to an amazing family friend, I am going over there to do mission work with children for a few weeks. (Teaching them English.)

If you didn’t make it in to NSLI-Y it really isn’t the end of the world! There’s something special waiting for you too.:airplane: :slight_smile:

Happy Holidays and good luck to all you semifinalists!

Sorry, couldn’t fit it all in one post!

@dory0814 CONGRATS! Can I just say, that is amazing. I’m so happy for you <3 And @girlintheworld who’s going to Paris :D

Hope I’ll have my own "NSLI-Y rejection success story’ in a few months :)

Congratulations @dory0814‌ !!! :slight_smile: I am SOOO happy and excited for you!!! You are the only one to actually KNOW if you are going abroad this summer! :stuck_out_tongue:

@evan241‌ Thank you! :slight_smile: I bet you will have your own story. Let us know when something happens!!
