@willowlvoue I’m not sure how that works either. I am also a little disappointed that we are not going to have the full host family immersion in Seoul, but I’m remaining positive that I have been given access to this experience. 
I hope we’re staying with classmates on the program so we can have access to other people for sure speaking the language.

@willowlvoue there’s no way to change cities, i also was really disappointed with my placement, but you can only reject or accept the city/program/duration you were placed in! honestly the cities in korea that they’re sending everyone to are pretty large and urban and seem very exciting and i don’t think you should psych yourself out about the experience because EVERYONE loves nsliy when they go! think positive
Everybody should receive an email notifying them of status by the end of April. It’s a long wait, I know, but we’ve come this far since October and one more month won’t kill us!

Guys do you think I should email NSLI-Y if I STILL haven’t heard anything (acceptance or rejection or alternate status) about Korean summer??? I think I should know either way by now. What do you think?

@katewithak I just emailed them. At this point, it seems like there must have been a mistake since they’re starting with the year notifs, and I still haven’t heard back. I still don’t think I’ll be accepted, but at least there’s some hope. :-S
I think they wait til all the programs are out to send rejections. Keep hoping though! @jjtell11
@katewithak Oh because some people I know who were semi-finalists and got rejected were already notified. But I honestly don’t know.
@jjtell11 - they said everyone will be notified by the end of April, right? I’m sure you’ll hear eventually - it’s only April 3rd.

Well guys, I just got an email from NSLI-Y notifying me that I was rejected for this summer. I guess it was kind of expected as I had just said above, but it’s still very disheartening and disappointing. I want to wish everyone who was accepted the best and I know you’ll all have a great summer. Also, to all the people who haven’t heard yet (my year semi-finalists!), I know you’re gonna get it because all of you guys are amazing!! I will definitely be applying next year for summer again and hopefully I will have a different result. If any of you are going to have blogs/vlogs of your summers, message me the links, I would love to see what’s up with you guys. Thanks for all of the support, everyone! :-S X_X

@TheMochi hi! I have a friend a couple of friends who are seniors that applied to NSLIY and went on a summer and/or year program after their senior year! You can go to http://www.nsliforyouth.org/eligibility/ to see the eligibility requirements

Congrats for making it to semifinalist - that is still a HUGE honor! Definitely apply again next year!
My advice would be to not give up, to focus on learning the language, to have strong essays, and to have a great, fun interview! Collaborate with other NSLIY people in advance! NSLIY is really an awesome community!
For those who are seniors and cannot apply again to NSLIY next year, check out CLS! It is just like NSLIY however it is for COLLEGE students! http://www.clscholarship.org/ CLS even as more languages! Some NSLIY alumni do CLS in college
