I think there might be a similar problem with the Korean program too if Corona keeps spreading this fast
@umb2021 Right!! As a semi-finalist with Korea was my top program i’m a little concerned about it as well…
Yes, there might be problem with Korea as well. From what I have heard, Korea is already under a level 2 or 3 alert from the CDC. This means that school travel to and from South Korea is suspended. So there will likely be trouble with the Korea program as well…
Hi! So if we put Korea as our only preference, and if Korea gets cancelled, will we automatically just not get it and have to reapply the next year? Thanks! I’m starting to get really worried!!
I think at this point, no one knows. They may automatically grant you a secondary location or you may have to reapply. It is hard to say right now.
If you don’t have a secondary location and your program is canceled, they will ask you for your second choice. For China summer applicants, they were asked to log back into their portals to verify or add one. I wouldn’t stress about the countries as NSLI-Y mainly accepts students overall not based on their language preferences.
we weren’t asked to log back in and verify a second choice? i wasn’t at least; they sent out an email to all of the chinese summer applicants (who had chinese as their first choice) and said that, while china is off of the list, taiwan was still a possibility. they also said that they’d take into consideration our second choices. we didn’t have to log back in to do any of that though. (also, edit! i just noticed that you said this was if they didn’t have a secondary location. sorry! if you have two locations listed your second location will be taken into consideration. idk how it’s going to work if you listed mandarin for both; i said mandarin for both and my email didn’t tell me to log back in)
the ay year applicants who had to leave chengdu are going to taiwan; i think the chinese program will be alright, just a lot smaller this year. i’m not sure what they’ll do with the korean program though :((
i’m hoping they give us special consideration for the virtual NSLIY program or next year due to the extenuating circumstances.
When do results start coming out? Does anybody know what programs come out earlier vs. later?
Last year Russia Summer and Hindi Summer came out on March 1, 2019
1.) Russian Summer (Early March)
2.) Hindi Summer (Early March)
3.) Tajik Summer (Early March)
4.) Arabic Summer (March 10 - 20)
5.) Chinese Summer (March 23 - 28)
6.) Indonesian Summer (March 25 - 31)
7. ) Korean Summer (March 28 - 31)
I found this from another thread. Sometimes the order switches but it usually is like this. I also believe that AY follows this order.
i think china and korea will come out at the very end this year because of covid-19. we’ll see what happens though! best of luck y’all!
I applied to the hindi summer one but I didnt get an email yet. good luck to everyone who applied though!
do you think the coronavirus will significantly impact the finalist notification timeline? the waiting is really getting to me haha.
That is what I am thinking. Usually by this time some of the finalists are already notified.
I think results will come on March 9th because last year for people who forgot to send in medical forms or had something wrong with them and had to resubmit had a second deadline of march 1st and thats when the first round of results came out last year but this year people who didnt turn it in got the second deadline of march 9th so i think like last year that will be the day of the first round results.
Nothing here for Russia summer… hopefully we’ll find out soon.
Indonesian and Russian Summer have just been released. It looks like the release order may be slightly altered this year due to the Corona Virus.
India is coming out too
I got into India Summer!
is indonesian coming out, too?
@thriving123 yay congrats!!!
