Does anyone have an estimate for when semifinal notifs will come out?

When my daughter participated it was a Friday evening in mid-to-late December. I remember because she was at the Holiday dance when she got the email. Good luck!

does anyone know how competitive each of the languages are (for the summer program)? Are there larger cohorts accepted for languages with more applicants?

Basically, there’s not really a set level of how competitive the languages are. The US State Department allocates different amounts of scholarships based off of the number of applicants for the language and timeframe. EX: Korean summer will have more scholarships than Turkish summer because Korean summer has a lot more applicants.

What language and duration did you guys apply for? (I applied for Chinese AY!)

Does anyone have a sense as to why there are so many more females than males accepted to the program (per data released by NSLI-Y)?

Tadjik summer, my first year applying

Not completely sure. I think it might just have more female applicants? Considering how NSLI does not discriminate, I would assume there’s more female acceptances because more girls apply.

It’s my first year as well… waiting around for semi notifs is so nerve racking! I just answered honestly in the essays, I have no idea what they are looking for in our essays.

Is anyone applying to the other study abroad programs? I applied to the other three (YES, FLEX, and CBYX). If anyone has any information on when semi notifs will come out for the other programs, please share!

Korean Summer and AY!! Hopefully I get in to AY but I’ll be thankful for either.

From what I have researched for the Korean programs. The summer program is around 20 and the AY around 12. (I could be off and the other programs may be different but this is my estimate.)

We’re probably going to start receiving semi notifs here soon y’all!

I put Korean AY as my second pick! Though from what I understand, second picks are only used when there is a problem with the program with your first pick. Usually due to location/placement issues or something. Therefore, as long as you put Korean AY as your first pick, there is a 99% chance you will be put in the Korean AY program if accepted ^.^

Does anybody know when semifinalist results are coming out?

No confirmed date, but I’m assuming this week or next.

Has anyone gotten an email for their decision?

No, have you?
