Reaching out to others who may be thinking of applying to NSLI-Y for Summer 2026. The application is usually out in early September. Does anyone know if they have funding this year? Or can anyone share any information about the status of this program?
I’m also thinking about applying for the Summer 2026. I’m not sure about the funding situation, but I do know that the application is out.
Thank you for the update. Just completed it. Good luck to you!
Hi all! I’m currently an American exchange student on the YES Abroad program in North Macedonia, if anyone has any questions about study abroad or applications lmk!
(Ik this is a thread for NSLIY and YES is a bit different but still I’m open to questions if yall have any)
Hello, I am currently in the process of applying for the NSLI-Y summer program. I am planning to do Russian, but the three countries for the Russian Program are Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Latvia. I am fine with going to Kazakhstan and Latvia, but I have family from Kyrgyzstan, and I would like to experience Russian in one of the other two countries. I know NSLI-Y picks a location for you based on language preferences. Do you think they will still put me in Kyrgyzstan even if I specified that I have family living there? And if yes, should I put another language as my main preference since I am also learning another language?
Guys I applied Korean Summer. Good Luck!
Does anybody know roughly around when semi-finalist notifications come out? I know sometime in December, but is there a more specific timeframe? Also I applied for the Korean Summer Program ![]()
wishing everyone luck!
From my understanding its not really something you can control and I dont think its something they can control either, you’re placed based on a variety of factors including age and language level (from my understanding) so I dont think there’s any way you can fully ensure you’ll be studying in your preferred countries. However, also keep in mind that NSLIY is a language program and not a cultural program so their priority is placing you somewhere you can learn the language the best, not somewhere you can experience a certain culture, if that makes sense. Again this is all from my understanding and experience as a former applicant i dont actually know much more than anyone else unfortunately ![]()
(Also ik its past the deadline so this is a bit late of a reply but just putting it here for anyone who might have a similar question in the future)
Last year they came out on December 11 at 1:25 pm ET
good luck everyone!!!
