NU'ers, what were your HS stats?

SATs, ACT, GPA, ECs…etc…

SAT = 1430/760/740/710, ACT = 35, 3.98 uw, Eagle Scout, NHS President, National Merit Scholar, etc.

1580/780/750/750, 3.98 uw, Model UN, NHS, Spanish Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta VP, JETS Prez, YMCA Volunteer, National Merit Scholar, AP Scholar w/ Distinction, etc.

1400/800/800/740 3.7 UW GPA, 200 hrs comm. service, french studies, a few minor ECs not really worth mentioning. oh yeah, went to HS in Mexico.

1470/770/770/690, 3.57 UW (sounds low but it was 4.42 W), 3 yrs. at the same job, tons of theatre involvement including leadership positions, National Merit Scholar, etc.

1500/800/700/710/700 3.98 UW, 4.2 W, yearbook EIC. NOT national merit… heh… my PSATS were dismal…below 1250…plenty of hours in theatre, but main thing was yearbook…all four years.=P

1510(800V, 710M), 790 writing, 730 math, 710 US, ACT 34, 98.26 UW, 2nd in class, pres. of NHS, treas. of spanish HS, DECA, national merit semi-fi, blahhh

1330/720/670/670; 4.3W; newspaper for four years [EIC senior year, sole editor at another school my sophomore year], NHS President, Junior State of America Vice Pres, Spanish Honor Society, CSF, have been working since beginning of junior year [Jamba Juice/Starbucks]…I think the main thing was that I transfered back to my killer academic hs from a hs where I could have had everything.

ITS ALL IN THE ESSAYS/ECs/GPA I’m convinced…

actually, my honest opinion, if you come from anywhere outside the midwest, I am willing to bet they are more lenient on you guys. This is my opinion but I can’t prove it, but these midwest schools are dying to get kids from the east, west coasts, and the south, it’s just a fact. I am sure that they could fill the entire class with midwest kids if they wanted to.

yeah that could be true…it just seems like they already get so many, lets say, cali kids to want their schools that they could get their picks of the litter and have the same amt come…HAHA i actually forgot where i was going but eh we’ll never know for sure…hey at least we’re going to great schools! Cornell?! woww congrats collegekid!! =]

thanks, CONGRATS on northwestern, wat a great school! This is a wild guess lol, but ru in the VERY REVERED journalism or communications school?

yup!! Medill…i was so blessed to get in; it’s gonna be competitive but awesome! how about you?!?

Well, this was awhile back (I just graduated from NU), but:

1340 (740v), SAT IIs: 740/730/690, 3.8 UW GPA, ranked 26/~400

My ECs were highly unusual, though, and I felt that I had very strong essays.

I’m going on to Columbia for grad school in the fall (despite not particularly stellar undergrad stats) , so it just goes to show that an individual cannot be defined by his or her numbers. Do not sell yourself short, and don’t take success for granted. As I said in an earlier thread, many people who are statistical shoe-ins make the mistake of writing trite essays and not bothering to showcase their abilities through their writing and their activities list.

Having worked in the admission office as an undergrad, though I can’t reveal details, I can assert this: a student with middling stats but ECs and demonstrated wit/intellectual curiosity that set him or her apart from the pile has an excellent chance for admission to top schools relative to an applicant with top stats and no heart/extracurricular creativity.
