Number of LORs and "Honours"

<p>I’m wondering if it makes a difference if you have more than the number of required letters of reference. I have two academic letters and one from a volunteer organization. I’m confident that all of them are really great and enthusiastic. Would this make only a negligible impact on my application? (I’m applying to Harvard, and I posted more details about my application in an earlier post.)</p>

<p>Also, I’m wondering if it matters whether you’re in an Honours program? At my university, only about 30 students out of many hundreds get selected to do Honours in one of my majors. Would an admissions committee take that into consideration? Would they even know if I didn’t specify it in my application?</p>

<p>1) Doesn’t really help. Could hurt if the third rec says essentially the same thing the other two do.</p>

<p>2) No one cares about the honors program, and they probably wouldn’t know it if you didn’t specify it (I’m assuming there’s no transcript notation).</p>

<p>Well the LORs should be of completely different nature, so hopefully they won’t do any damage.</p>

<p>As for Honours - it is actually on my transcript. I’m completing a Joint Honours, and both of the departments have different sets of courses for Honours than for normal Majors. I’m not sure if that makes a difference, though…</p>
