<p>I’d go with 3. After that, they start averaging your scores and they probably don’t enjoy that very much.</p>

<p>The general good number is three, but some colleges don’t care how much you take it. Ask the college you want to attend how they factor the SAT.</p>

3 is pushing it

<p>I asked this question at a college fair - two schools (Emory and Agnes Scott) both said that four is really pushing it and that students are too obsessed over the SAT - that other things are more important.</p>
<p>I think what they mean is that by the time you have taken it three times - your ability is fairly known to the admission reps and either you have done well, or you haven’t.</p>
<p>So what if you do real well (100-150 point jump from the past highest) on the fourth test?</p>
<p>What about the UC’s? Since they take from one sitting does it matter how many times you take it?</p>
<p>I’m trying for the 4th time to go from a current 1170 to a 1270+ for UF, so I hope it still helps even though it is the 4th time.</p>

<p>I have never encountered a college that averages your SAT scores after your fourth test. Maybe a few do, but I know people who have gotten into ivy leagues after taking the test more than four times. So does anyone actually know any colleges that average scores, or is this just a rumor?</p>
<p>Don’t worry at all. Colleges do NOT care how many times you take it. I have a friend who took the SAT 5 times and ended up with a 2190. She got into harvard, yale, princeton, duke, etc etc</p>
