Numbers driven?

I’ve seen that term bandied about on here to describe state unis that admit solely GPA, SAT, etc. Would you say that Rice is more numbers driven than other top universities? I’m slightly worried about my chances ED because of my ECs, but everything else is very qualified.

raindrop don’t worry. To certain extent all top schools are numbers, race, gender, likely hood of cadidate attending and zip code driven. For example, last year WASHU rejected/waitlisted many top candidates. They thought those may not kids will not attend, and that would hurt their yield. Last year, my nephew who lives in far-east was waitlisted at WASHU. They called him at 2:00 in the morning (local time) and specifically said that they would send him the admit letter only if he told them right at the moment if he would attend.

Rice is definitely not numbers driven… They look for good students and interesting people, and their applicants that they take from the broad pool of people who apply may tend to have high numbers, but that’s not the motivating factor for accepting people. Quantity of ECs is not as important as quality of ECs… are you a passionate, interesting person that will add to the culture of Rice? If so, don’t worry.
