According to Register | NCLEX (about 1/3rd way down) it is the state nursing board that decides eligibility to take the test, not the school. The nursing board, in turn, determines eligibility by looking at the studentās transcript. For example in CA the instructions at Licensure by Examination just say they must receive transcripts from the college the student attended, not any other approval or authorization.
Are you saying there are colleges that refuse to release transcripts or certify graduation status until the student has passed a simulation NCLEX test?

Yes, some schools will not send/delay transcripts if the Hesi or ATI scores are not adequate. This is from the handbook of a school I am familiar with.
Edit. You can google ānursing exit examā or hesi/ati controversy etc. Policies vary per school/state etc.

I donāt know very much about the nursing school process so I am not following your point. Doesnāt an 850 ordinarily correlate to barely passing the NCLEX? Shouldnāt we expect that from our student nurses?
Iām actually not really sure about the 850 question; my point is simply adding to the discussion we were having in the thread - that some nursing schools are sneaky and manipulative with a self-serving goal of squeezing out even excellent students if they canāt perform well on certain tests, particularly prep tests for the NCLEX. 
Curious too about FAU and USF Tampaās nursing programs.
Hi! i have been lurking on this thread as i am a current high school senior who just got into umaine direct entry bsn and george mason direct entry as well! i noticed that you have discussed your daughter attending umaine? i have some questions! is it a weed out program? ive read the handbook front to back but i am still a little confused. how are the clinicals? are they too far? i read in the handbook that they can be about an hour away and that transportation needs to be self provided. i live in maryland so i havenāt gotten the chance to visit yet, but we will during spring break. also, how does your daughter like the program so far? they seem really caring about the students from what i have researched, but we never really know.

My daughter is very happy in the program so far! Sheās made awesome friends, especially with fellow nursing students, who are from all over. (We are from NY.) From what she understands, most if not all clinicians will be in the Bangor area. Bangor is about 10 miles away and a car is generally required although there is a bus system.
I believe that basically nursing students must maintain a GPA of 3.0 with some wiggle room as suggested in the handbook.
I do agree it can be confusing to read but like most nursing programs, science grades seem prioritized.

To progress to NUR 102, NUR 106, and NUR103:

The program is definitely very supportive. Everyone in Maine seems so nice. Itās just how it is!! Theyāre great people. My daughter has found it easy to communicate with professors and has found lots of support within her cohort & with students in other cohorts.

Is your daughter still at UP? How is she liking it? My daughter was accepted for Fall 2024 but I have some reservations with the whole SIM track they have started.

How has your daughter enjoyed the Nursing Program at Creighton? Will the clinical sites be arranged and scheduled for her and hopefully not too far away?
I have a HS Sophomore wanting to go DA BSN, but coming from the California Bay Area with no snow and not a lot of driving experience, Iām trying to understand in advance.
Hi there! My daughter will graduate from Creighton in a few weeks. She has had a fantastic 4 years at Creighton. Creighton is really well situated for clinicals. There are lots of hospitals within a few miles of the hospital and a great advantage is that many of them are teaching hospitals. My daughter never had to leave the city and she had great clinicals but also a great summer internship and preceptorship this semester. She also started working as a CNA her junior year , first in labor and delivery, then in the ER. Her preceptorship was on an icu ward.
She has had wonderful caring, patient teaching throughout and great mentorship. Partly maybe the Nebraska nice you hear about but also because of the very close links between the hospital and the college.
As well as getting a great foundation she has become a life long college basketball fan ( Go Blue Jays) and found great places to eat out, go shopping etc. Apart from the weather ! Downtown Omaha has a great Bay vibe.
She does miss CA weather for sure but has had plenty of time at home and the spring and Oct breaks exactly half way through each term have really helped.
She has had a car the last two years and has driven on some icy , snowy roads but compared to other parts of the Midwest there is actually less snow ( just a few weeks). The grey skies and wind are what she dislikes most.
I hope your daughter will check it out. Itās been a great fit for my girl!

are these all direct entry true 4 year programs?
Some of the programs might be 4.5 years. It depends on what cohort you get into.
Many schools have a fall or a spring cohort.
That is definitely something to consider if cost is an issue.
The reason for different cohorts is so there is more availability for clinical opportunities.
