Nursing major, USF or UPitt?

Hi everyone!

I have been both accepted to University of San Francisco and University of Pittsburgh for nursing.

USF has given me merit scholarships but Pittsburgh has not.

I have to wait until March to see the financial aid packages but still i want to hear your advices and experiences — which school should I commit to?

Thank you

Take the money. Both schools have good access to top hospitals.

Congrats! Are both schools comfortably affordable (no/minimal loans, no hardship)? If both are affordable, do you have a preference in terms of location, overall school vibe, etc.?

Go to whichever is cheaper. Nursing school is HARD everywhere. With the nursing shortage out there, you will have no problem getting a job ANYWHERE you want to go, doesn’t matter where you went to nursing school. All that matters is passing that NCLEX and getting your license. They are all desperate for nurses in every field. I am an RN and I see it daily. I do contract nursing (basically travel but just local shifts). It’s bad out there.

USF has a fantastic and HIGHLY competitive program - I’m sure UPitt must as well. Where are you located? In addition to the financial issue discussed above you may want to consider climate - you couldn’t get more disparate in terms of weather! :snowflake: :sunny:

Do you have direct admission to the nursing major at both?

If direct admission, check the nursing handbook for each to see what grades and GPA must be kept to stay in the major.

Compare costs.
