What is the nursing program like?
How many students in each class?
when do Clinicals start?
Excellent nursing program. Brand new state of the art building opened last month. There a little less than 150 students per year. Clinicals begin sophomore year.
I must be honest. Sometimes the nursing program can be a bit disorganized and you really need to be assertive. Overall, I love it. Each class has about 150 students - mostly female. They expose you to clinicals during Freshman year second semester and I was at Heartland, a nursing home for the elderly. Clinicals continue until the end of the program.
@NurseAlyssa thank you so much for replying! can you answer a few questions for me? Umich’s nursing program is my first choice, so I would like to get a little bit more insight as to what it is like being a student there. what do you mean by disorganized? Is it 150 people together in one class? Do all of the nursing students take the same classes together?
I hope these are too many.
My dd is in her junior year in nursing school.
All 150 kids take the same class. They will graduate in 4 years altogether. You are not allowed to have C. If you get a C, you fall behind a year because you need to repeat the class. If you still get a C, you are out. They will try to place you in LSA.
Great program. You have lots of clinical hours and you can work part time in the big hospital, gaining experience.
DD is in the honor program which has 12 kids. the program selects students after the first year. There is also a direct MS program they can choose.
@JH8888. . “You are not allowed to have C. If you get a C, you fall behind a year because you need to repeat the class. If you still get a C, you are out.”
THIS IS FALSE!!!
From the “University of Michigan School of Nursing Progression Requirements for Traditional BSN Program” handout:
- a. "Must earn a grade of C or higher in all courses required in the nursing program." b. Must achiever an average of 73% in all of the examinations in each of the School of Nursing courses in order to pass the course.
Perhaps you are confusing the requirements for the honors program? But please don’t scare people with false information.
i am sorry my info was old. They changed the requirement apparently.
