<p>Since you are in Engineering, VT is preferred. But it’s not always about rankings, you have family and things, I’d say go to UVA. It seems like the best option for your family, and that’s what matters most. </p>
<p>Another thing you might want to check is how many credits will transfer into the majors, sometimes not all courses will transfer properly. </p>
<p>Your UIUC idea seems kind of pointless, if it’s only for one year. Perhaps going there for your masters is an option, but UIUC is a state school, OOS is far too expensive, ESPECIALLY for one year. I’d say stick with the IS schools, I assume you are in VA =P. </p>
<p>UVA and Tech are both amazing schools, I say decide based on factors that don’t involve academic prestige. Both engineering programs are great. </p>
