I recall feeling so lonely freshman year, even though I did have friends. I think that the addition of social media makes a tough transition even worse. The more people talk about the reality of the transition to college, the better.

Maybe the dorm trend toward suites contributes? Methinks that sharing bathrooms down the hall was part of our freshman bonding experience.

I went to college with my best friend so I was fortunate to never be lonely. We did make a few other friends though only still friends with one of them. My best friend though: I still talk to her multiple times a day. This fall we will be celebrating 50(!) years of friendship!
