NY Times article on rape at Hobart/Willam Smith

Horrible, awful story about the experiences of a rape victim who complained to the college. Despite overwhelming evidence of rape from the medical report and an eyewitness, and clear evidence of lying to police/changing stories by two of the accused, the college completely cleared the three football players at lightning speed. And revealed the name of the victim in a letter to all students.

I imagine that there are similar stories at many colleges. In this case, the victim was willing to go public.

If I had daughters, I’d be worried sick about sending them to college. In this case, as in many, the victim drank to oblivion. I’m sure that being careful about drinking and avoiding being drugged, and staying with a group, goes a long way toward reducing the risk of rape.

I am well aware that I am old. I don’t believe that this kind of thing went on back in the Dark Ages when I was in college. Excessive drinking, yes. Rape? I don’t think so. Gang rape? No.
