NYC area help (Farmingdale, CUNY, other CC's?)

<p>I’m finally going to go to college at 22 years old. I’m going to start at a community college or something similar to that (easy to get into and not crazy expensive).</p>

<p>I’m concerned about demographics of schools and I can’t seem to find information on this. I don’t want to go to a school where white people are only 10% or even 30% of the school. I’m one of those people who’s only comfortable with my own ‘people.’ I don’t mind black people and I don’t mind them being a minority in the school (as well as hispanics and Asians). I’m just being honest here in saying that I’m most comfortable in my own environment when learning and I want to be able to have my group of [white] friends. You don’t have to quote me stats or anything but from general knowledge are there any mostly minority majority schools I should avoid?</p>

<p>Also, I know it’s community college or whatever other college. But I don’t want the work to be so easy that I’m getting easy A’s. I want to bust my ass for good grades as much as possible so that when I do transfer to a better college, I don’t fall behind. I’m going for construction mgmt, by the way, in case anybody has any more specific recommendations. </p>

<p>Use Collegeboard.org to give you an idea how diverse the CCs are.
CUNYs:

  1. Kingsborough: Pretty diverse. 33% white
  2. College of Staten Island: 40% white (100% admission and probably your best choice here). it has a 2 year program and a 4 year program.
  3. Queensborough: Pretty diverse. 21% white.</p>

<p>Other CCs around NYC have white as minority.</p>

<p>Maybe you should look for a diverse school so you can expand your horizons and be comfortable with people of any race. Who knows, maybe you will make friends with students of different races.</p>

<p>If you live in Nassau County, I’d just go to Nassau Community College. It’s a good CC and you can transfer to much better area schools if you do well there.</p>

<p>Thanks for your answers. I’m thinking about leaving the NYC area altogether. The place is a f’in disaster, obviously. Much like CA.</p>

<p>No disrespect, oldmom. I just grew up in the inner city and I was sick of living around that ‘ghetto’ environment. That’s why I want a school in which I fit into the demographics. I just want peace and I want to focus with little disruptions, something I never had in high school.</p>
