NYC--DeHirsch Residence 92Y Reviews

Does anyone have any first hand opinions on the DeHirsch Residence (92Y) in NYC?

A couple of summers ago @dumbo11 started a thread about where her daughter should live during her summer internship in Westchester County. She ended up at the 92nd St.Y, and @dumbo11 posted this:

I remember this thread vividly because it brought out a few “Oh my God, keep her out of Manhattan, she’ll be killed there” type posts, which I found so silly I was compelled to respond. I also posted to advocate that she live in Manhattan rather than the suburbs, which I thought would be grim for someone her age.

The whole thread is here, if you’d like to read more, but the posts on the Y really only address its location: <a href=“Need help!
Thanks MommaJ. It seems to be a good option to standard dorm living.

I just saw this, but the 92y was perfect. It is not luxurious, but it was very clean and very safe. There is good security 24 hours. The hall bathrooms were kept very clean. My D did not use the hall kitchen at all, so no idea on that. The room itself was a just like a large dorm room. They did have a cleaning service and changed the linens weekly. The subway was very close (4 short blocks), so it was very easy for her to get around. It has a swimming pool and exercise classes, which my D loved for the convenience. There were also hundreds of other events at night (there was a book listing all activities at the 92y). She didn’t participate in any, but I sure would have. The location is very good if you need to transfer trains. On the advice of MommaJ and others (thanks again), she knew exactly where to get on the train, where to transfer, etc. This easily cut 15 minutes from her commute vs. going to GCS. If you have any specific questions, I can ask her. She is now graduating and moving to NYC. Just last weekend she told me that she was so glad she had lived in Manhattan, or she wasn’t sure she would have considered it. Now I have to find her (and roomie) an apt (hoping to avoid brokers if possible).
