My son has landed an internship in NYC with a major TV station and he needs housing for June - August. He is 21, a rising senior at a top university and a very mature, responsible young man. I am concerned because he is searching craigslist - and of course his safety is of utmost importance to me. Please contact me if you have any leads.

I believe that NYU rents dorm space to summer interns.

That said, I found the apartment I moved to with my 5th grader (now a high school junior) via Craigslist. It’s a legitimate way to find a place. And plenty of people sublet their apartments for the summer.

Here’s NYU’s summer housing page:

My D has lived in an apartment in NYC for the past 3 years and has found many places via Craigslist without any problems. There is a facebook group called gypsy housing NYC where lots of actors post their places to sublet when they have out of town jobs. My D found her current roommate who is also a theatre major like my D via this site.

Thank you both for the input. I have found places also using Craigslist - but somehow NYC just seems scarier. I forwarded the link for NYU to him and he has already began the application process - although it is late in the season there are a few spaces available (all non-air conditioning, haha, so this will be a new experience for him in more ways than one). I also told him to check out the Facebook page - just in case.

CC folks ROCK!

Last summer, a CC parent had a thread about summer housing for her daughter who would be in NYC for an internship. I believe they settled on the 92nd St. Y. They have single rooms with airconditioning and the subway is nearby. I remember that they explored many options and reported back that they were quite pleased with the location and services. I don’t know how this compares in cost to NYU. Best of luck to your son.

Here’s the website for the 92nd St. Y’s room rentals:

Note that it’s a Jewish Y–a service organization that serves everyone, but with Jewish, not Christian, roots.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that!

One of my kids lived at Columbia during a summer internship.

[Housing : INTERN HOUSING 2013](<a href=“Columbia Housing”>Columbia Housing)

Rooms were beautiful; two stories complete with living area, kitchen and bedrooms. And air conditioning!

I lived in the Columbia dorms when I did my NYC internship - highly recommend

Thank you for the 92nd street Y idea/information. This is exactly the sort of thing we are look ing for.

Also, he will check out Columbia. Right now the choices are slim at NYU - only units with no sir conditioning left…but it makes sense to check other colleges.

Thank you! I will let you all know how it turns out.

I posted this before. D1 stayed here when she interned in NYC. The one she stayed at had air condition and it was in Chelsea.
