when I think of how I want to spend $400.00 and spend my new years I say olive garden (sarcasm)

@zobroward
You obviously don’t appreciate the finer points of breadsticks
Man, I’m thinking they even have Olive Gardens in NYC!!!
Yes there is an Olive Garden in Times Square. And I’m not at all surprised that they are charging a premium. After all, you can get the NYE experience in TS but have food, a restroom, a place to sit down and heat. Some folks will pay for that.
fallgirl the restroom is worth 400.00 by itself.
I just bought a pair of plane tickets for under $400 apiece. I think our money is better spent there than at Olive Garden, but different strokes.
I guess folks who want that gold-plated bathroom better make reservations ASAP because I’m sure there will be a sell out crowd!
Breadsticks not included! Seriously.
You gotta admit, it is kind of a brilliant idea from Olive Garden. It is a way for people to be in the heart of Times Square for NYE without standing for hours in the cold with a mob of people (and bathrooms are available). It is NYC and I have no doubt that people will pay up for that (even if it means eating Olive Garden food).
The fact that breadsticks aren’t included cracks me up.
Heck, I’d do it, and I would never stand in Times Square and never eat in Olive Garden. To have basically a front row seat with all the comforts would be cool.
maybe olive garden in akron, ohio is only 350.00 and includes breadsticks??
I feel so bourgeois…I actually like OG. Pasta fagioli soup, salad and breadsticks.
The breadsticks are awesome. As is the salad dressing. Getting hungry!
The Herbfarm’s NYE dinner bash is $395 pp - wine included, but Times Square is not.
It’s simply called supply and demand. Basic Economics 100.
BTW, you pay way more for anything in Times Square at any time of the year. Visitors, go see Times Square, take in a show, but eat and stay somewhere else. NYC is filled with wonderful places to stay and eat.
Times Square at NYE is only for the young. Same thing for Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Did it when I was young. No desire to ever do it again.
UNLESS, I could be in a comfortable place, with food and bathroom available. And I would be willing to pay more for that!
I don’t even think this is outrageous. They’d probably have a table turn over 4 or 5 times in a night, but for NYE they are just having the one serving. Open bar for those hours. I think the breads ticks thing must be a joke as all the food is included. Tax, tip?
I think Olive Garden is one of the cheaper packages on the square. Saw some for $1000+.
I happen to like Olive Garden.
I mean, not $400 worth, but I still like it nonetheless.
I see the appeal here. I’m not one to stand out in the cold to watch a ball drop. If I really, really wanted that experience without being miserable, I’d consider it.
According to some random internet searches I just did, the average price of a mixed drink in Manhattan is $14. So if you party hard for 4 hours, $400 (including unlimited booze and food) does not sound that bad in exchange for the good location.
Just this morning CNBC had a story on both small businesses and large companies abandoning their Times Square locations and moving to places with cheaper rents… Enjoy the $400 while you can - $1000 will look like a bargain in a year or two.
Meanwhile, real New Yorkers stay home and watch it all on TV in the comfort of their own home.
