NYC taxi

Does anyone know about how much it costs (on average) to take a taxi from Grand Central to the downtown/Wall Street area? Thanks!

It’s about $20.

Do you have to take a taxi? There are a lot of trains to Wall Street from Grand Central.

Yes, and swine flu (but I don’t want to take this off topic too far so let’s not go on a tangent).
I would have to commute by train to Grand Central and then get downtown.
I could drive but parking is like 50 bucks…

When in NY, do as the NYers do, especially if you plan to work there evey day. Take the subway. Get a monthly pass.

^^ Unless you are Joe Biden’s son…in that case, he doesn’t want you riding the subway…

It would only be for about 3 weeks. But would you guys believe that it’s about 20 bucks each way?

Will you be taking a taxi everyday for three weeks? Unless you are being paid a lot, this will be a total waste of money. You can take the subway each way for $2 (until MTA increases the fare).

If you’re taking a train into Grand Station, just walk over to the 4 or 5 train and take it to the Wall Street station. You’re just as likely to get sick in a cab as on the train. Lots of people sit, cough, and touch things in taxis. Just wash your hands often. It may be expensive, but it’s ridiculously time consuming, as well, particularly at rush hour. I can’t imagine wasting that much time every day.

Nobody would actually do that… take the subway. It’s far cheaper and much faster.

Is that a joke Rocketman? Subway is faster, yes. But many on WS are with Biden and never take them.

Apparently he was referring to taking the subway to MEXICO, so if you’re just taking it to Wall St, you should be OK.

I was on the subway today, as I am most days, and no one seemed very concerned. But that’s New Yorkers for you.

I may not be that expensive to drive in. Check the link below, it will give you the cheapest parking garage based on when you are coming into the city. It looks like it’s between 25-30/day.

[Hourly / Daily - Parking in New York City - Icon Parking Systems](http://www.iconparking.com/ExpressParking.asp?reloaded=true)

There are some residential parking garages where if you were to get in before 10am and leave by 6, you could get a better rate. There are a lot of them around Battery Park City.

I don’t think it makes sense to take a taxi everyday. I take a shuttle bus from NJ into NY everyday. I don’t touch my face, and I wipe my hands with germ killing wipe as soon as I get to my office.

I park near wall street for $24.PM if you need specifics

If you are that concerned about the flu, you should probably walk instead of taking a taxi. A wide variety of people who are healthy and afflicted with various ailments are in and out of taxis all day, and you won’t know who has been in your taxi before you got there. The flu virus can live on surfaces for hours.

(In fact, if you are that concerned about the flu, you should also probably avoid office buildings, where the quality of the recirculated air often leaves something to be desired.)

At the end of the day, I don’t think your risk of infection with any of a multitude of things (from colds to viruses to flu) varies much depending on whether you take a taxi, the bus or the subway.

In addition, even if you could find a reasonably priced parking garage, you have to consider the unpredictability of NYC traffic at all hours of the day and night. If your intention is to potentially drive into the City during rush hour, please leave lots of extra time because chances are that you will hit a traffic stoppage/slowdown or two or three along the way.

Moreover, I would stick with the subway. It will be much just as safe, faster and much more cost effective than any other method of getting downtown during rush hour.

sallyawp > I hope you are kidding about walking from Grand Central to Wall St , it is about 5 miles.

Buy the metro Pass $81 for a month of unlimited subways and busses. 4 cab rides and you’ve paid for the Metro Card!

^^Yup, I agree…

and you think Biden was referring to taking a subway TO Mexico?? haha…subway from where?

I was just adding some comic relief to the situation; really didn’t intend for an extended response.

$103 in a month. 5 cab rides.

When the subways were on strike in the 70’s I walked 2x a day from Grand Central to Wall St and back again in the evening. It’s actually not that bad of a walk if you have the right shoes.
