<p>We got a room via Priceline for $225 at the Wyndham in Times Square - beautiful hotel. You may also want to check out the Marriott at Newark Airport; they’re cheaper and have a shuttle bus into Penn Station.</p>
<p>We’re also going to NYC in March, but doing a one-day run (which is not unreasonable from the Boston area). We’re leaving at o’dark hundred in the morning (driving), H is dropping me and D at the TKTS booth in Times Square. We’ll get the tickets for the matinee. He’ll park and take the subway down to the TKTS booth at the Seaport, which sells tickets for the evening show. There are enough shows that we haven’t seen that we don’t mind taking our chances. (We were lucky enough to get TKTS tickets for Curtains last time.) And then H, who loves to drive, will take us home. Long day, but always a lot of fun!</p>
<p>The Steppenwolf production of August, Osage County has moved to Broadway. It is a fabulous play with lots of dark gallows humor. The patriarch has a fine soliloquy and that is the last time he is heard from.</p>
<p>We are Sondheim fans and loved Sunday in the Park with George. Other favorites are Spamalot, Avenue Q, Mary Poppins (I went with girlfriends), Mamma Mia and Wicked.</p>
<p>We’ve stayed at the Marriott Marquis, Westin, Hilton Times Square, NY Hilton and the two Sheratons on Times Square. All highly recommended hotels in the Times Square area.</p>
<p>I would have to say that the most reasonable hotel that we’ve recently stayed in nyc is the Washington Square Hotel, and the room also comes with a free continental breakfast in their restaurant. We’ve also been guest of the Embassy Suites, which can be reasonable, depending on the date(s) of stay. There is also the Doubletree suites in Times Square along with many others from the Hilton and Marriott chains. There could be nice discounts offered depending on if there is a promotion, AAA rate/AARP rate, etc.</p>

<p>We recently saw Harold Pinter’s The Homecoming, and the plot was too disturbing for me to enjoy it. Aspiring playwright son saw beyond the story and admired the play a lot. H, too. I couldn’t; like mythmom, I’d rather go see Mamma Mia again. :)</p>
<p>I agree with "just"aMom - no sense in paying full price for any show unless you really want to see a particular, no-discount-available show like Wicked or Jersey Boys. We bought standing room only tickets the morning of the show when we saw Spamalot. I had no clue how standing room only tickets worked, so I asked when we bought the tickets, “How early should we get here?” thinking that it would be a first-come, first-serve “grab your standing space” scenario. The person behind the booth replied, “Unless you like to stand a lot, you can come here 15 minutes or less before the show starts.” I did not know that there are numbered spots for the standing room only “seats” right behind the orchestra. Our tickets clearly showed our numbers. Duh. For $20 a ticket, we had great “seats” (center orchestra), no obstruction, burned a few extra calories, and the bar was right behind us (non-drinkers here, though).</p>
<p>We went to see Legally Blonde last month – Adorable. My Husband, 18 year old daughter and I really liked it a lot. I saw Avenue Q–sorry my 18 y.o. wasn’t with me – I thought she’d really like it.</p>
<p>I loved “Legally Blonde” and “Mamma Mia”. They’re both fun, feel good musicals that I would (and most likely will) go see again. Obviously you can’t go wrong with a show like “The Lion King” or “Phantom of the Opera” either.</p>
<p>I don’t know if anyone mentioned this earlier, but be advised that the downtown TKTS booth has been moved temporarily, if that’s where you’re planning to go. It is now under the Mariott Marquis hotel.</p>
