^ And tourists going crazy over ‘I <3 NY’ shirts, 7 for $20!

Of course, that’s not a typical NYC college student’s apartment. I paid $800/month for my apartment which I shared with others ($3200 and $4000 total at the places I lived).

How much money do you guys spend per semester in NYC? Like on partying, going out to eat and other expenses?

You know you’re not going to school in the right area when your parents keep mailing you $$ and you have nowhere to spend it. (yea I go to school in the heart of PA, cow country).

That’s why im transferring to NYU next year.

and btw. NYU isn’t expensive if you know the ins and outs. I see too many people pay $30 for parking and go to a club with a $20 cover. Cudda went to TWO clubs AND and had change for a case of beer. Foolish.

Plattsburgh: You live near Central Park and have only been once??

I find that hard to believe, plus you should go more often, it’s a relaxing place.
I live in Manhattan, not that close to CP but my school’s near there and I play baseball there.

Well, I grew up in Central Park so I’m biased.

I can’t wait until I am older. Hopefully I’ll have enough money to live in NYC. It sounds so exciting, with a ton of crap to do. The suburbs of St. Paul are painfully boring.

BTW, that skating rink in Central Park looks sick!! I think Trump owns it. Does it cost money to use? And do locals actually use it or is it mainly a touristy thing?

I’ve seen the Naked Cowboy and girl! The girl didn’t have a top on and it was like November. I don’t know how they do it. I used to love Times Square when I was little but now it just annoys me. Too…artificial. Ah, New York is such a great city for bargains! Some great places cost less than $10 combined for lunch for me and my parents. Love it.
My sister was in and out of housing at NYU. I think her best dorm was the one in Washington Square Park. Worst was all the way by Wall Street, or the one where her roommate basically took over the place before she moved in. Then again, I think living in the city spoiled her as now she is in Boston/Cambridge and hates it. Oh well.

Yeah, Wollman Rink, it costs money.
There’s a free one downtown in Bryant Park that’s more crowded.
And there’s Lasker Rink which is in a less busy part of the park.
It’s all owned by Trump, haha, except the free one.

It’s not necessarily touristy; maybe half and half.

It always seems touristy to me…all of Midtown is pretty touristy though. I still like it, just not where I’d want to spend most of my time.

Just came back from Connecticut. The weather was a lot better over there. It’s soooo humid here!! and it rained during the night.

i’m bummed i missed the bulk of this thread!

i have never seen the naked cowboy and i still get lost in central park

also my rent is like $747 which is more than i can afford but whatever! it’s not too terrible. and there are definitely ways to enjoy new york for cheap, especially in the summer. there’s always some weird free event in some park or something.
