I went to Macy’s today and tried a pair on of the dark khaki and grey. I even went down from my usual size. Oh my, they looked great! I have a hard body to fit in jeans where I feel good…especially the back with my long, low behind…TMI…sorry. But why are they so long? Not only are they $114, but I’ll be paying alteration fees. I’m 5’8" and never have this issue. Even in heels they puddle the ground. Anyone else have this issue? I haven’t purchased yet.
I love NYDJ too. I’ve found some too long and some are fine. Niemen Marcus will shorten them for free.
Actually I think it’s Nordstrum as BB said below.
See if Nordstrom has them. The basic hemming is free on full-price items. Alternatively, check the Rack to see if they have your style (NYDJ are sold for $40-60 there) and pay to hem them.
I’ll have to check them out! I have a very very hard time finding jeans that are long enough.
Thanks! There is both a Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack…will go there!
I am loving the NYDJ … and online they come in tall sizes!!! The regulars might be barely long enough, but the talls are awesome. You short people can hem too-long jeans … but if you have long legs, there’s no options to make pants longer.
But if they’re shaped at all – like, slim at the bottom, or flared at the bottom – all that shape gets cut off. So No, that doesn’t really work too well, except for an inch or so.
For me, petites are the only way to go.
Almost every time I’m at TJ Maxx and am looking at pants (which is sometimes but not all the time) I usually see some NYDJ - especially jeans. Maybe try a couple of your local TJ’s - at a lesser price (I think under $50) you might feel better about them or hemming.
@conmama – how many sizes down from your usual size did you go? Sizing is so different depending on the brand; it drives me crazy!
(The tall sizes are apparently available online only; I thought I’d give them a try but sizing is such a shot in the dark.)
My DIL introduced me to these in an outlet mall in CO. Now it is alll I will buy. I wait for a sale or Nordstrom Rack or a sale at Nordtrom Rack, even better. I wash them a few times before deciding on shortening, sometimes I just roll a hem instead. I think they make them for those high heels that I don’t wear.
Nottelling, if this can work as a reference for you, I wear size 42 IT (as proven by the fit of many Euro brands) which is 6-8 US, but in that brand, I had to go all the way down to 2. One caveat - I am not tall, so my sizing info applies to regular length jeans.
They also come in “short” sizes. I’m 5’8" and found the short were fine.
I bought several pairs of NYDJ at Hamrick’s in South Carolina. If you know that store, it’s not exactly high-end. I was thrilled to find them for $40 - but the check out clerk expressed surprise at how expensive they were. I told him that it was actually a steal.
I wear an 8 and it did it fit comfortably, too loose in the stomach though. I was wanting a more form fitting look and the 6 fit perfectly without being too tight. I can’t gain any weight though. Ive read that they really stretch out easily so go down a size.
I generally go down at least one and often two sizes in NYDJ. The brand is notorious for stretching out, so wear them around the house for awhile before you cut the tags and have them altered.
Here are the NYDJ under “women jeans” at Nordstrom Rack. There’s another link for pants and a third for petite. Can’t help you on the sizing but there are some good deals. If you have a Nordstrom card, I believe alterations are free for a few items/year.
Have several pair of these jeans and I love them. Have not found them to stretch so much that I needed a smaller size. Yes I have to them hemmed and I still wear them with heels.
