Also no desire to stay up till/past midnight. I used to do it with the kids when they were younger but did it ONLY because of them! I’m a morning person and nothing is worse than trying to make yourself stay awake. I’d much rather have the morning time tomorrow to enjoy myself!
In the morning I may make French toast cubes from the last of the Christmas panettone. And bacon. ![]()
Someone mentioned having a fire in the fireplace tonight. If that’s not an option for you, during the holiday season I like to put one of these videos on the television screen in the morning and in the evening if a show isn’t on. It gives me warm, cozy vibes! I like the ones that are near the water as opposed to a fake Christmas-y scene.
Bought!
Dinner with our good friends at their house. We celebrate midnight at 9pm pacific time then head home. H suggested if it’s not raining when we get home to walk to a little bar close by to have a nightcap.
Where are you? Are you a day ahead of us?
I am going to dinner at a neighbors. They said “festive dress” so I am wearing silver sequined pants, lol.
I am ready to let loose a little – my husband is out of commission and a week away from back surgery and today was rough. He is in a lot of pain. And then some of you may know I run what is basically a nursing home for horses. Got a call at 7:30 am that one of the horses was down in the snow (happy ending – for now – as we got her up.) But this afternoon the vet saw another horse with severe arthritis, and as we were pretty much out of options, I made the call to put him down. So that wasn’t so happy.
I need a drink!
My brother and I took my mom to lunch today. I said we should order a bottle of bubbly for lunch, but don’t get anything too expensive. He looked at the menu and said, “The cheapest bottle is a Veuve.” I said, “I guess it will have to do.” It is actually my favorite champagne.
Wishing everyone a very happy New Year.
No plans but happy to kick the can of 2025.
Did go out to lunch for one of our favorite hamburgers and fries place. Tipped the waitress extra because she’s great. Remembers our order even!
Watched the Michigan game, now rooting for the U!
Weather has been terrible so it’s a good night to be home.
We’re making homemade pizzas for DH and me tonight. Tomorrow is our festive New Year’s Day foods. We have a long standing New Year’s Day brunch menu (usually hosted at a friend’s) of the traditional Southern New Year’s foods – collards, black-eyed peas/Hoppin’ John, grits, and biscuits. We skip the pork because we’re mostly vegetarian.
We are going to H’s buddy’s NYE party. The buddy is in SF with his son but the younger son at the last minute invited us to come to the party anyway, so we are. A few years back, I taught H a very simple and delicious mochi rice recipe which he has made HIS specialty. He’s making it for us to bring tonight and has made it for all our holiday gatherings this year! Yay! The host is making a tasty & hearty soup with garlic bread plus lots of folks are bringing different dishes
Tomorrow we are going to my brother’s for lunch with my extended family. We are bringing a Costco bag of chex mix and a catered japanese new year’s stew, nishime. Yay for low key! It’s a potluck and folks are bringing all sorts of different dishes.
Quiet day mostly – took a walk along the Bay beach at sunset. H made clam stew from clams he’d gathered this morning. He’s asleep now and I’ll read a while but be in bed long before midnight.
This is my kind of NY EVE!!!

We splurged on filet mignon from Costco. It was really good with sauteed mushrooms, with butter/oil, garlic and marsala. Also had salad and steamed green beans - so pretty with their bright green color.
In the spirit of the occasion, I dug out this old fancy suit I bought ages ago at a resale shop. I’m sure it was originally a MOG dress. I’ve worn the top on rare occasions with dress slacks but never the skirt!
I opened the tiny jar of caviar Mr. B bought at Costco. We did not get the hype! Our first and last caviar tasting. Curiosity satisfied. ![]()
Mr. ate 3 (!) of my (quite large) steamed dumplings and said they were excellent.
A heavy fog blanketed the area! We initially planned on walking down the neighborhood where the city lights can be seen so we could get a glimpse of the fireworks, but I doubt we could see anything but the fog. So we are hanging out by the TV.
