NYE/NYD Plans or Menu?

It’s here! Like it or not. :clinking_glasses:

  1. A nice even year. I like even numbers.

Plans or delicious food planned?

We will be home both tonight and tomorrow. Grandpup sitting tonight. She will not like any fireworks that go off.

H sat through some holiday meals which were not his fav - our family are adventurous esters, except him! So I’m making him a simple, fav meal - coconut shrimp (Costco), homemade steak fries, green salad.

He will be happy.

Share your plans whether big, small or none at all! :tada:

We are enjoying snack dinner! Pigs in a blanket, crockpot meatballs, truffle potato chips and a crème fraiche dip with salmon roe, puff pastry tart with goat cheese and asparagus. A bottle of champagne, why not? NYD will be pork chops, mashed potatoes, sauerkraut.

Our plans are small. H & I are doing a jigsaw puzzle - our NYE tradition since the kids stopped celebrating NYE with us. Dinner will be burgers on the grill, and we have some of my birthday cheesecake left for dessert. I have had a bottle of champagne hanging around since last NYE (I had a bad cold & wasn’t up for drinking it); we’ll probably drink some of that champagne. We may or may not make it to midnight.

My wife and I are going to support local restaurants in our town tonight and tomorrow. We’ll do an early dinner tonight, then watch Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper get progressively goofier leading up to midnight on CNN. Tomorrow we have an early dinner reservation at a restaurant that puts up amazing holiday decorations for the season.

I’m hosting a party tonight but am keeping it more low key than usual because we just came back from traveling. We are down to 14 people because the flu seems to be making the rounds.

Guests are bringing an app or dessert to share but I’m making:

Apps:
Hot crab dip
Shrimp cocktail
Charcuterie and cheese board
Nuts and fruit

Main course:
Spiral ham
Scalloped potatoes
Shaved Brussels sprouts salad
Sourdough bread

Dessert:
“Cookie bar”- Cookies, cranberry donut bites, blondies, lemon almond poundcake
Assorted Chocolates

I’m hoping dinner tomorrow is left overs!

We both just recovered from the awful flu A, most likely subclade k, that has been hitting folks hard (both had flu shots 5 weeks ago, but the vaccine this year was not well matched).

So we are staying home. Making my regular NYE spread: steamed dumplings, green salad, egg salad with lots of garlic, roasted veggies. Have a bottle of bubbly, too. Husband bought a tiny jar of caviar at Costco (why??), so have to deal with that  too.

I’m in SoCal and my sister and I have dinner reservations at a restaurant overlooking the water. The unfortunate thing is that it will likely be raining…I’m still looking forward to it.

If I were home , I would be going to small dinner party at friends house.

2025 can not end soon enough!

Simple dinner at home, grilled salmon, potatoes and green beans. No fanfare. No party.

Is cranberry donut bites something you make?? :face_savoring_food:

We had planned on being out of town but decided yesterday that we were happy to just stay home. We have a bottle of sparkling wine that is leftover from Thanksgiving. I don’t have any dinner plans but maybe Thai takeout. Tomorrow is rain and our friends have cancelled their annual New Year’s Day party. Since the kids left home we aren’t big NYEve celebrators.

Having a late lunch with friends at a Korean BBQ restaurant, where you grill your meats on a grill in the middle of the table. This is the second time having Korean BBQ (first time for spouse). I remember it as a fun activity. They bring out a lot of food, so we’re skipping breakfast. Tonight will be spent watching the Cotton Bowl and NYE shows.

We have been invited to dinner at a restaurant by friends who are wealthy. The $198 per person Prix Fixe Menu at this French restaurant consists of four courses (appetizer, salad, main, and dessert) and there will be musical entertainment and party favors. Our reservation is at 7:45 pm so I don’t think we’ll be there until midnight. I am working (remotely) with an overseas client and have been up at 4:30 am every day this week. Hoping I can fit in a nap before tonight.

Today is my son’s 6th wedding anniversary. They got married a few months before the Covid shut down. Now they have 2 adorable children. Their New Year’s Eve themed wedding was a lot of fun.

We are bringing sweet and sour chicken meatballs and ingredients for cranberry mocktails, made with ginger kombucha, 0 sugar cranberry juice and orange juice.

We don’t stay up for NYE, usually just a fancy home-made dinner, movie, then bed. I came down with a cold Monday night, so DH is going to a neighbor’s party, and I’ll probably watch a movie that wouldn’t interest him.

Soooooo looking forward to taking down the Christmas crap tomorrow.

We are attending a party that friends host every year. Wasn’t sure it was happening as the wife’s mom was in the hospital over Christmas. But, she wants some normalcy and is forging ahead. Everyone brings something to contribute.

I’m taking (this word is probably no longer PC), “Dixie Caviar.” It is a marinated black-eyed pea dip. I have seen similar recipes referred to as, “Texas Caviar,” but those tend to have black beans. I’m also taking a large bowl of fresh fruit. That always seems to be popular and appreciated when there are a bunch of fatty appetizers and sugary sweets.

It won’t last until midnight. Even if it did, dh can’t make it that late.

I’m working today until 5pm. H worked until 1, but had a staff meeting at 2pm. In between we had the roofer come and look at a spot that leaking/seeping. He said it’s not a big deal and will fix it sometime soon. I didn’t have anything planned for dinner, and H suggested (canned) soup and grilled cheese. Sounds perfect to me, especially since I won’t have to make it. I can make a good grilled cheese, but nobody makes it as good as he does (in his opinion). Fine by me!

Since H is also working tomorrow morning at 6am, we are going to bed around our usual time. I’m going to work with him, because then I can work for awhile people the public gets there! I do enjoy that perk.

For some reason I had zero desire to stay up until midnight. Usually I do, but this year, it just feels like another day. I have started to map out some things I’d like to focus on and do this year, so there is that…

Pulling out Mom’s old fondue pot and going old school with fondue and champagne. Maybe I can convince DH to make a fire in the fireplace.

We’re just staying home tonight and having one of my frozen Lou Malnati’s pizzas. We’ll open an old bottle of Prosecco from the outside fridge to toast the NY midnight (husband’s old time zone), Chicago midnight (where we lived for 40 years), and of course west coast midnight. Our tradition for that is to Facetime son, who will point his computer out the window to the Space Needle in Seattle while I play the livestream of the fireworks on another device.

Tomorrow will be 49-er Flapjacks and maybe mimosas for breakfast while we watch the rainy parade, then later pigs in blankets.

Husband has a variety of sporting events to watch. I have plenty of books on my Kindle.

And in honor of the new year, I replaced the air, water, and produce keeper drawer filters in the refrigerator.

For the first time in a very long time, we have no plans for tonight. Didn’t feel up to hosting a party which is what we usually do. It’s going to snow tonight so don’t feel up to going somewhere either. So, H and I will stay home and I’ll have to come up with stuff to do to keep him awake until midnight
