I can’t open the article, but we put State Farm’s “Drive Safe” device on our car. It’s supposed to give you a premium reduction if you drive well. DH and I REALLY concentrated on driving well - it’s tough, because what the device calls a sharp turn or hard brake is ridiculous. But our driving score was pretty good, so we anxiously waited to see what our six-month premium reduction would be. Drum roll… $4.19. You gotta be kidding me. We don’t pay attention to it anymore.

I referenced this article and the piece about GM’s ONSTAR’s collection of customer driving data and selling the information when car shopping with my kid recently.

The salesman almost insisted on including the ONSTAR in the package. I had told him and the sales manager that we read the article of the data selling. The salesman kept pushing - “I won’t get my bonus.” I simply replied, “Did you hear what I said?”
