It’s a tough situation for students and parents. So late in the year and certainly far from guaranteed to happen. “Game of chicken” is the perfect description. But honestly Syracuse at 45k is still a problem for a lot of people (me!)

Is there a list of which schools likely do this? That would be interesting to see.

My senior was offered a total of $61,580 in merit per year after the May 1st deadline. They had already committed elsewhere because there was zero $ offered with their acceptance letter.

I saw recently that 3 students from our NJ high school committed to Syracuse after committing elsewhere. I think it must be very difficult to be a college admissions officer and guesstimate with accuracy how many students will accept your offer of admission in any given year. This year must have been extremely challenging given the turmoil and uncertainty with foreign students’ visas.
