NYTimes on Penn and the hook-up scene

Where’s the data that shows that people who wait to have sex until marriage have lower divorce rates and are more happily married?

He’ll be heading off next week.

Well, you have different concerns than the rest of us, RIP.

I wouldn’t worry much, though. At 16, in college, he’s not very likely to have very many sexual opportunities, anyway.

And, you know that the number of marriages is going down because of only the female’s attitude?

riprorin, why don’t you respond to the the evidence that pushing for abstinence doesn’t work?

I think you are arguing for an approach that demonstrably fails given the metrics you stated. I’m eager to hear you respond to facts.

Not really. It’s a big media question right now. You will find this discussed in the same publications which want to discuss the false rise of female hook up culture.

I think that’s the thing that’s got everyone upset, frankly. But, instead of asking why girls don’t want to marry these guys, they ask why girls are having more sex, which, statistically, they aren’t.

07:

[Turning point in US as more women choose not to marry | World news | The Guardian](Turning point in US as more women choose not to marry | World news | The Guardian)

07, I don’t know if this is mainly women who have changed, or if the guys don’t want to marry, either. I don’t think anybody cares if guys want to marry or not, or want to sleep with everybody or not. But, I do think the culture is having a difficult time adjusting to the fact that young women no longer want to marry very much. But, instead of talking about this, they talk about false alarm morality issues.

But…

I’m confused. Where you answering your previous question or stating something?

Right, it doesn’t really concern me. He’s social, but he’s pretty focused on academics and he’s studying CS/math so that should keep him busy.

Childbirth is different though. You actually give birth to a human being, and go through a lot to do it. Quite admirable really :')

Poetgirl, here you go.

http://www.focusonthefamily.com/about_us/focus-findings/marriage/premarital-sex-and-divorce.aspx

I’m not reading that RIP. Focus on the family has a well known agenda.

Where is your son going to college?

Nobody considers focus on the family to be doing actual research. I’m sure they might present this evidence at Liberty University, but no place else.

The article cites 5 studies. Why so close minded?

Beautiful soundbite for a very peculiar thread.

I love amusing typos.

If you actually read it you would see that they cited studies.

How can you discredit all of these studies.

RIP, I’m not closed minded. At all.

I’m also married to a guy I started dating in high school. I’m not unsympathetic to your views.

Where is your son heading off to college?

Niqui–

It may well be true that women who are virgins when they marry stay married. I see no evidence that this means they stay “happily married.”

Dig deeper.

They cite studies, but they draw odd conclusions from those studies, but you know? If you want to be a virgin when you marry, I say go for it! There are plenty of them out there, like 30% of the population.

This actually supports my point, which is that things haven’t changed all that much, and these “articles” have a different agenda.

looks around What?

I was merely responding to this:

Whih was before your edit.

He’s attending the University of Alabama.

Can you send me studies that support your thesis that sex before marriage results in lower divorce rates and greater marital happiness?

Well, good luck to him, RIP.

I hope he has a great experience. No better football on the planet.
